📋 About This Mod

An example of adding extra functionality to an adventurer to turn them into a custom sidekick.

This is intended as a small demonstration of what can be done by adding extra functionality to an adventurer to approximate something close to a custom sidekick. There are are some really cool possibilities for things that can be done with such a character, (such as a companion quest, and ending slides), that I can't show due to working with existing audio and dialogue.

What this mod shows:

  • []An Adventurer resembling Durance from PoE1. Including a ported custom voice set, attributes & background, as well as recreations of his unique robe and staff.

[]A full introductory conversation, that can be initiated using an item in the character's trinket slot. In addition to ambient party banter with the character that will occur with Aloth or Pallegina in the party.

[]Companion data, that can be modified to add new progression tables that allow additional starting class selections at the end of the introductory conversation.

I won't go into the creation at this time, but if there is enough interest I might write up a guide in the future. Otherwise you can find a bit more information on some of what is going on here in the Turning an Adventurer into a Sidekick/Companion thread on the Obsidian forums.

I owe a large part of this mods creation to the Apotheosis tool created by noqn. The conversation editor and how easy the program makes working with Deadfire's data is something I cannot say enough good things about.

    Installation:

    Once downloaded unzip "Custom_Sidekick_Example".

    1. Move the "Durance Data" folder to the "override" folder that is located inside the "PillarsOfEternityII_Data" directory:

    • []Steam: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity II Deadfire\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\override"

    • GoG: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Games\Pillars of Eternity II Deadfire\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\override"

    2. Move the "English(US)" folder to the "Voices" folder. From the "PillarsOfEternityII_Data" this can be found:

    "PillarsOfEternityII_Data\StreamingAssets\Audio\Windows\Voices"

    3. Place the "Durance (135d47bd-5a32-4af1-8a44-1f7d3822b0f9).character" file into your "ExportedCharacters" directory:

    %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II\ExportedCharacters

Then load the game, and head to an inn that allows adventurers' to be recruited and recruit the character called "Durance" (make sure to recruit the character with their unique equipment).

To avoid a bug move Durance into the first character slot in the party.

Right-click the “Stone Idol” item in the character's trinket slot clicking the "Talk to" button (the "Out of Range" button will display if the character needs to be closer) to begin the intro conversation that can end with you to selecting the character class.

The character and dialogue of Durance in the original Pillars of Eternity are written by Chris Avellone, and voiced by Dave B Mitchell.

In addition to the above, this mod uses audio from Pillars of Eternity 1 from the characters of Aloth and Pallegina. Who are voiced by Matthew Mercer and Mela Lee respectively.
