It has a json config file where you can disable autoRun automatically being 'medium'.
You will die from falling damage if you aren't careful at higher speeds.
I suggest mapping 'medium` to your regular sprint key, it will use no stamina and be faster. Selecting a 'fast' key will let you kick it into high gear while you hold it down. I use left-shift for medium and X for fast.
