If you're someone who plays on multiple devices i.e. Steam Deck, Laptop, Desktop PC, you have to rely on Steam to save your files to the cloud, and then, upload them when you're finished. Unfortunately, Steam does a terrible job with cloud saves.

The issue: OneDrive and/or Steam do NOT work

I had Windows 11 freshly installed, and it put OneDrive on my PC, which I had to remove entirely. Unfortunately, this broke my Steam install, since it was looking at c:/users/username/OneDrive/Documents, and now I repointed it to c:/users/username/Documents... and even reinstalling Steam, I couldn't get the cloud save working again! Steam simply REFUSES to save files properly

The solution: a Python-powered backup tool

The logic behind this tool is incredibly simple: Supply the location of your save games folder and your backup folder, and press a button. Like magic, all your games, backed up. It works flawlessly, and I have used it for over 500+ hours across Skyrim, Fallout 4, etc.

Setup Instructions

• []Download the EXE file, and optionally, the Python files as well to customize it further

  [](Optional) Setup a cloud application on your PC. I use Google Drive since they're much more reliable and generous with storage space, and I have it set to 'Mirror Files'. This allows me to have a folder such as: C:\Users\Username\GDrive. Google Drive lets you put a custom path wherever you want, and backup whenever you want

• Run the EXE, and pick your directories for source of saves, and backup files. You will have to supply the directory AND the save location every time using the EXE, until you rebuild it!

  IMPORTANT WARNING: READ THIS

  The way this works is by deleting all of the files in the backup directory first, and then, replacing them with new files from the save directory. For this reason, you should take caution in using this tool. If you accidentally delete your source i.e. mygames saves folder, and then run the script, you could delete all of your saves. They will still be located in your recycle bin!

  FAQs

  Q) What if I accidentally delete all my saves in both the source folder and the backup? Are all my saves gone?

  A) No. This moves them to the recycle bin. It does NOT delete permanently.
