📋 About This Mod
Adds a custom creature to Oblivion. Inspired by a classic D&D creature.
Name: Shrieking Bolete Version: 1. 0 Date: 08/26/2009 Category: Creatures Requires: Oblivion 1. 1. 511, OBSE Author: TheMagician (feedback@truancyfactory.com) Source: http:\\\\www.tesnexus.com Description =========== The Shrieking Bolete is a fully custom creature created from scratch for TESIV: Oblivion. This is my first attempt at creating a fully fleshed out creature for Oblivion, so there are liable to be more than a few rough edges. This is the Bolete\'s first public BETA, so error reports and feedback are encouraged. Although I have done extensive testing with a single character in a single dungeon under controlled conditions, I am aware that many unusual things may occur in different settings with different characters interacting with different scripts. I recommend you do extensive testing on the Boletes in your own mods to ensure they are behaving themselves in an appropriate manner! How to Use this Resource ======================== The Shrieking Bolete is a modders\' resource and is intended to be used by modders in their own mods to add creature variety and additional gameplay challenge. The .esp has a complete Bolete build including sound files, scripts, spells (for the creature), a new book and ingredient, and a testing area for previewing the creature. (There is a chest containing a potion of invisibility and scroll of silence near the entrance of Bolete Cave if you would like to get closer to the Boletes to examine them \'in the wild\'.) To get to the preview area, you can type \'coc aaaBoleteTest\' in the console or fast travel to the Bolete Cave map marker outside the Market District. The easiest way to use this mod is to merge it with your own (it is not likely to conflict with anything) but I recommend that you delete the Bolete Cave cell references to save on bloat and avoid conflicts with other mods if you choose to go this route. (The Bolete Cave test area is intended for testing purposes only and not intended for general use.) (For additional information about the Bolete\'s powers and how to properly set up and use one in your own mods, please see the extended readme which is included in the download.) What Is a Shrieking Bolete? =========================== The Shrieking Bolete was inspired by a very mundane and much maligned creature of classic D&D gaming: the Shrieker. Shriekers are essentially nuisance creatures that look like moving mushrooms and that emit a piercing cry when they detect danger, alerting all other creatures in the vicinity to the presence of an intruder. Encountering them in a D&D session was always a cause for annoyance and fear as your party scrambled to kill all of them before they could alert the other denizens. One of my gripes with Oblivion has always been the obliviousness that most creatures demonstrate toward their surroundings. It is easy to kill a goblin 30 feet away from another without alerting the other to your presence, even with grunts, shrieks, clanging metal and
