📋 About This Mod
Uses Lumen's technique to add real lights to Combat Ranger, Desert Ranger, and Riot Gear helmets, without replacing or editing .nifs.
After the release of Lumen, and seeing the technique used for lighting static meshes, I wanted to find a way to add lights to rigged armor meshes, specifically the Ranger helmets. It was tricky to do, as you can't skin lights in the same way that you can skin meshes, but that ended up being sort of a good thing.
I ended up adding a Lumen light to Dr. Li's glasses, adding them as an ArmorAddon to the helmets, and making Li's glasses invisible. Because of this, I made zero edits to the original head mesh, which makes it compatible with any other mods that edit the textures/models of the head mesh. For example, the screenshots that I took are using "F4NV NCR Combat Ranger", and are still lit up.
I haven't tested the Desert Ranger helmet yet, but the light for it is green instead of red.
Adds functional lights to Combat Ranger, Desert Ranger, and Riot Gear helmets in Fallout: New Vegas, without replacing or editing .nifs. A lightweight visual enhancement with 356 endorsements and 269,623 downloads, last updated in June 2023.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge download count (269k) shows it's a popular pick for ranger fans
- No .nif edits means it's less likely to conflict with other mesh mods
- Simple concept that does exactly what it says—lights on helmets
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2023—might not be tested with the latest game patches or mods
- Only affects three helmet types, so it's a niche cosmetic tweak
For Fallout: New Vegas players who want their ranger helmets to actually light up dark areas without overhauling the game's visuals. Skip if you're looking for gameplay changes or if you don't use those specific helmets.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the base game and any DLC that includes these helmets (e.g., Lonesome Road for Riot Gear) installed.
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or FOMM to install and easily uninstall if needed.
- Load order likely doesn't matter much, but place it after any mods that alter helmet meshes to be safe.
