📋 About This Mod
Big Mountain is a cool area filled with loot, but it is heavily diminished by your own equipment which depending on when you start the DLC could already be even better than the loot there. I thought it could be more fun having to adapt to the situation kind of like in Dead Money. This mod allows for that.
With this mod, when you first travel to Big MT all your equipment will be removed except for caps. These items can be recovered later in the DLC. You'll get a quest to remind you to recover your gear. If you just play the DLC, you cannot miss it. Location below.
Currently you can configure the maximum amount of caps, stims, super stims and bobby pins to keep. By default you keep all your caps with you. Some basic items that couldn't be found at the start of the DLC have been placed around the Think Tank and The Sink; around 15 bobby pins, two basic guns and a sledgehammer. The Sink vendor also sells some bobby pins now.
To configure the mod, you can edit the ini file found in the config folder.
This mod is standalone and will have no conflict with other mods. You could only lose your gear if you install the mod, start the dlc, your gear is removed and then uninstall the mod before recovering your gear. Don't do that.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Adds real stakes to the DLC opening—you're stripped down and have to survive with what you find.
- Configurable to keep caps, so you're not totally broke for vendors.
- Solid download count (142k) shows a lot of players are curious about this kind of challenge.
⚠️ Cons
- Only 59 endorsements compared to downloads—maybe some players found it too punishing or buggy.
- No detailed instructions on how to configure the mod, so you might have to dig into files.
- Last updated March 2025—could be fine, but check for compatibility with your mod setup.
For Fallout: New Vegas players who want a more hardcore survival experience in Old World Blues, especially those who find the DLC too easy with endgame gear. Skip if you prefer a power fantasy or don't want to deal with inventory management.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you're using a mod manager, install this like any other mod and make sure it's active before starting the DLC.
- Check the mod's config file (if any) to adjust which items are kept—caps are the default, but you might want to keep a weapon.
- Since it only triggers on first arrival, make sure you're ready for the challenge before stepping into the transport.
