Extra Shotshell Loads

Extra Shotshell Loads by Vechs Note: This mod does not require any DLCs or mods. It should also not conflict with any other mod.

This mod adds the following:

12 Gauge #4 Buckshot (one ounce load, 27 pellets) 12 Gauge #BB Birdshot (one ounce load, 50 pellets)

20 Gauge #4 Buckshot (3/4th ounce load, 20 pellets) 20 Gauge #BB Birdshot (3/4th ounce load, 37 pellets)

This mod also adds:

The above ammunition added to vendors. The above ammunition added to crafting and breakdown recipes.

12 Gauge Buckshot renamed to 12 Gauge #00 Buckshot 20 Gauge Buckshot renamed to 20 Gauge #1 Buckshot

Being a shotgun enthusiast in real life, I was disappointed with the availability of shotgun loads in FNV, and how they were named. I've tried to make the shotgun ammunition more realistic.

I recommend the following loads for these targets:

Heavy armor: Slug Medium armor: Slug, #00, #1 Light armor: #00, #1, #4B No armor: #4B, #BB

#BB is amazing against Cassadores, and makes taking out their wings to cut down their mobility very easy. In general, #BB birdshot is a cheap way to kill low-DT animals like gecko, mantises, and tribals. /sneeringimperialist

The #4B loads are great for fiend and raider type humans, especially if you have Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Back! perks.

The 12 Gauge #BB birdshot load is also cheap, reflecting that in real life, birdshot target loads for 12 gauge are dirt cheap. Along with 22LR, 12 gauge birdshot loads would be some of the most common things to find in the wasteland. If you don't want to use the birdshot in combat, it makes great fodder to breakdown for hand loading supplies.

You can find the new ammo anywhere normal 12 gauge would be sold.

Will you add more shotshell loads? A: Probably not. I feel like all the roles are covered now.

Why didn't you add more types of birdshot? A: I originally did. In testing, the high pellet counts proved to be both useless in combat (because the damage is split evenly from the base shotgun damage) and also very taxing for the PC to run. Anything past 100 pellets (#4 bird loads and smaller) made my PC noticeably hitch when I fired. And I have a very beasty PC setup. Because of this, I figured the only practical birdshot load that would do well in FNV game mechanics is one of the larger geese loads, like BB.

Why did you rename 20 Gauge buckshot to #1 Buck? A: Because to get 9 pellets in a 2. 75" 20 Gauge load it means it is #1 Buck. And loads larger than #1 would risk accidental stacking of the pellets, which flattens them as they leave the barrel and that's a bad thing. :)
