Custom Names for Characters

This mod provides custom names for both common and background characters in the game. Naming conventions include job titles, faction ranks, character condition, and character societal roles. This allows for a more immersive and personalized game world as characters are no longer generic and forgettable. For instance, many NCR Military Police are given new unique names such as "NCR Policeman" or "Hoover Dam Police", which gives them more distinct identities and roles within the faction. Legion soldiers are given descriptive conditions, such as "Weak Recruit Legionary" or "Weary Legion Explorer," which add more depth to their ranks and hierarchy. Mojave wastelanders are given job titles such as "Lone Mercenary" or "Scavenger Trader," which makes them feel more like real people with their own unique backgrounds and lifestyles. Freeside thugs were given new character types like "Crazed Freeside Thug" or "Malnourished Freeside Thug" to make them feel more like real individuals with their own motivations. In summary, this mod enhances the player's immersion in the game world by providing a greater sense of realism and individuality to the characters they encounter. This mod aims to be lore-friendlyish but uses ideas from non-cannon Fallout sources. Several names included in the preset files use profanities, explicit language, and potentially offensive stereotypes (explicit names were only chosen from other Fallout games and used when appropriate).

FEATURES

Custom names provided for all unnamed, non-unique human characters, with the names displayed on the HUD and various game menus. During gameplay sequences such as VATS, looting corpses, entering dialogue, and trading, the new names are also displayed. Descriptive character names for each faction rank, new variant names for generic characters seen in towns and settlements, and unique names for wastelanders and other traveling characters. Additionally, there are several custom names for employee and other worker characters, which may indicate their expertise or job title. Overall, more individuality and realism is added by giving characters unique names that reflect their roles and backgrounds. Every single name can be customized to your preference in the text files.

INSTALLATION

Choose only one version to install. Install the latest main file. For manual installation, extract the file to your game’s data folder. For a mod manager installation, install the file with your preferred mod manager.

COMPATIBILITY

Name replacer mods higher in the load order than Custom Names for Characters will conflict. This can be solved by deleting the conflicting line in the text file or adding ;; at the beginning o
