Witcher 3 REDkit: CDPR Handed Modders Their Own Internal Editor
CD Projekt RED released REDkit — the full REDengine editor it used internally — for free. It turned The Witcher 3 into one of the most deeply moddable RPGs ever shipped.
For a decade, Witcher 3 modders worked with reverse-engineered tools and file edits. That changed when CD Projekt RED released REDkit: the actual REDengine 3 editor the studio used in-house, offered free on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
REDkit is a full world and quest editor, not a trimmed-down fan tool. Modders can place objects, build new areas, write quests, and edit dialogue the way CDPR did during development. It is the same leap in capability that the Creation Kit gave Skyrim, applied to a CDPR game.
The effect is visible in the mod scene. Where Witcher 3 mods used to be textures and tweaks, REDkit-era mods are new questlines and locations. If you have only modded The Witcher 3 with the old tools, the current list looks like a different game.
