Vehicle Doors Overhauled

Overhauls vehicle doors with new mouse controls and behavior.

Description

This mod separates controls for opening and closing vehicle doors. It also makes their behavior more physics driven by requiring the door to have sufficient angular velocity to close instead of pure player interaction. As of v1. 4. 0, the mod also changes how interior lights behave. Here is a breakdown of the major features:

New controls

Angular velocity to close

Doors will close only if they are swinging inward fast enough, either by player interaction or physics.

Hinge friction

Adds resistance to movement with static and dynamic friction for increased realism.

Door check

Removes vanilla timer to activate door check to lock the door open. As long as you hit the door check angle, the door will hold its position until enough torque is applied to break it.

Interior Lights

Most vehicles get a new 3 position switch for the interior lights, "always on" / "when doors are open" / "always off". The door mode will keep the lights on until every door is closed, unlike vanilla behavior that turns it off after any door closes.

Settings

You can tune how doors for each vehicle behave including how strong the door check is, how strong you push and pull on the doors, friction, and how fast the door should be to close. Since the weight of the doors differ by vehicle, having the same setting does not mean you get the same behavior!

Compatible vehicles

All vanilla vehicles — Sorbet, Machtwagen, Bachglotz, Gifu, Kekmet, Rivett, Heppa.

 

Mods that modify vanilla vehicles, but not their doors, should be compatible. Plus:

  You can choose to disable this mod for individual vehicles (requires reload).

  Rivett note(1): new behavior is only applied after the door is bolted. This is because right click is still used by the game to uninstall the door before bolting it.

  Rivett note(2): there is a vanilla bug in the game where if you install and uninstall the door closed, the game will not remove the fixed joint that holds it and will create a new fixed joint each time you do this. If your door seems stuck after installation this might be the cause. Fix is to yank the door out of the car to remove all the fixed joints.
