📋 About This Mod
What is this?
This is a conversion of Taddeus' "On the Rocks!" to work with normal mapping in OpenMW. Basically, it removes the "shiny rocks" issue, while still keeping the normal mapping included in the mod. On the Rocks! is most famously used in the popular mod compilation "Morrowind Overhaul: Graphics and Sounds", also known as MGSO. You can therefore use this as a patch to make MGSO look better for OpenMW. With that said, you can use this without using MGSO too.
What do I require for this mod? You don't really need anything except of course OpenMW to make the normal maps work. You don't need the original mod (I included everything you need) since I had to edit most files anyway to make this work in OpenMW. If you have MGSO installed, then this will fix your shiny rock problem.
How do I install? Follow part 1 if you just want these rocks and don't have MGSO installed. Follow part 2 if you have MGSO. Part 1 - without MGSO

I made a tutorial on how to fix the shiny fake bump mapping in the OpenMW documentation. I simply used this method. Please do check it out if you're interested.

With 319 endorsements and 10,987 downloads, it has a solid following despite being last updated in 2017.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-trusted with 319 endorsements and nearly 11k downloads
- Fills a specific gap for OpenMW users who want MGSO-style rocks without losing normal maps
- Simple compatibility fix—no complex setup mentioned
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2017—may not be tested with the latest OpenMW versions
- Only affects rock textures; doesn't overhaul other aspects of the game
- Requires the original 'On the Rocks!' assets, which aren't included here
For Morrowind players using OpenMW who want the classic 'On the Rocks!' look from MGSO but with proper normal mapping. If you're on the original Morrowind engine, you don't need this—stick with the original mod. Skip if you're not interested in texture overhauls or don't use OpenMW.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have OpenMW installed and are not using the original Morrowind engine, as this mod is specifically for OpenMW.
- If you're using a mod manager like MO2, you can install this mod directly; otherwise, manually place the files in your OpenMW data directory.
- Check that your OpenMW version is reasonably recent—since the mod is from 2017, newer versions might have changed texture handling.
