📋 About This Mod
Realistic Archery
This mod overhauls the Marksman skill to be more realistic and visually intuitive. Arrows and other projectiles no longer visibly hit a target and "miss" from RNG. Instead, your marksman skill actually determines the trajectory of your arrows and thrown weapons.
-
[]Projectiles no longer "miss", if they physically hit a target, they do damage
[
]Marksman skill now determines the accuracy of the projectile's trajectory: at lower levels an arrow may not go exactly where you aimed it[]Crouching also improves the accuracy of your projectiles
[]To balance low level marksman hitting things every time at close range, damage is now reduced if you are too close to your enemy
[]The range at which damage starts to be reduced is also based on Marksman skill
[]Scatter amount, damage range and damage reduction all configurable in the MCM
[]This affects both the player, NPCs, and creatures (such as skeletons)
Requirements
- []Requires MGE XE and MWSE (run the MWSE-updater.exe that comes with MGE XE)
- Not compatible with Marksman Rebalanced, consider this a spiritual successor to that mod.
Realistic Archery tweaks projectile behavior in Skyrim: arrows and thrown weapons always deal damage on hit, but accuracy suffers at low marksman levels and close-range shots deal reduced damage. A lightweight gameplay mod for archery-focused players seeking more realism.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid community backing with 304 endorsements and over 9,300 downloads.
- Adds a meaningful trade-off: guaranteed damage but less accuracy and close-range penalty.
- Simple concept that fits right into Skyrim's archery gameplay.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2022 — might not be compatible with the latest Skyrim version or mods.
- No detailed documentation on how the accuracy and damage reduction scale with skill level.
- Only affects archery and thrown weapons — no changes to other combat mechanics.
For Skyrim players who want archery to feel more realistic and skill-based, with a clear penalty for low marksman levels. Skip if you prefer arcade-style archery or want a broader combat overhaul.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this mod changes accuracy, consider pairing it with a crosshair mod to better gauge your shots.
- If you're using a mod manager, let it handle the file placement to avoid overwriting other archery mods.
- Test the accuracy at low levels in a safe area to get a feel for the new projectile behavior.
