📋 About This Mod
An MWSE-Lua script that makes NPCs seek nearby shelter during rain. Residents will find shelter under anything that provides cover, returning to their positions and activities once the weather clears.
This MWSE-Lua script adds a touch of immersion to the daily life of Vvardenfell. Residents will no longer stand indifferently under a heavy downpour. During rain, NPCs dynamically seek out nearby shelters like tents, awnings, overhangs, cozy spots under stairs, arched passages, giant mushrooms, or even trees to keep dry.
-
[]Dynamic Shelter Search: Every few seconds, the system distributes available shelters and canopies in the city among NPCs.[/]
[]Immersive Behavior: NPCs choose the shortest route. Upon reaching their destination, they smoothly turn 180° to observe the rain from a dry spot.[/]
[]Return to Routine: Once the rain stops, NPCs return to their original positions, restoring their initial behavior and facing.[/]
[]Smart Cleanup: After a long rest, waiting, or if you leave the cell for a long time, NPCs automatically teleport to their starting points, restoring their original behavior.[/]
[]Save-Safe: To prevent "cluttering" NPCs, all data is stored within the NPC and Player variables using MWSE-Lua, ensuring nothing breaks between loads.[/]
Seyda Neen, Pelagiad, Balmora, Caldera, Suran, Gnisis, Ebonheart, Wolverine Hall, Khuul, Ald Velothi, Gnaar Mok, Hla Oad, Dagon Fel, and Vos.
Not Included:
-
[]Regions without rain.[/]
[]Vivec: (Due to its unique architecture where upper tiers already act as cover, and the streets are mostly patrolled by Ordinators).[/]
[]Telvanni Settlements: (Due to "cursed" staircases and rare common NPCs on the streets).[/]
To maintain gameplay balance and quest integrity, the following do not seek shelter:
-
[]Carriers (Silt Strider/Boat travel NPCs), Guards, and Slaves.[/]
[]Street merchants, archers on walls, door guards, and some quest-related NPCs (especially if they are restricted from moving).[/]
[]Note: The Argonian in Pelagiad stays outside because... well, he's an Argonian.[/]
Technical Nuances and Known Issues
Guards & Patrolling
By default, guards will continue to patrol during rain (controlled by the is_guard_patrolling_in_rain = true flag). This is intentional for several reasons:
[]Gameplay Balance: Guards must remain on duty to ensure the Nerevarine doesn't use the storm as cover for crimes and theft.[/]
[*]Shelter Capacity: In certain locations, such as Ebonheart and Pelagiad, the number of available shelters is strictly limited. Keeping guards on patrol
