Description
The great factions do not share their wealth freely. Vaults, treasuries, and restricted chambers are guarded by loyal soldiers who will not hesitate to act if they spot an uninvited guest. This mod adds a layer of consequence to trespassing in faction-controlled areas.
When you enter a restricted cell and a guard spots you, they will lock onto you, draw their weapon, and issue a warning countdown. If you don't disappear from their line of sight in time, they will attack and add a bounty to your name. High-ranking members are welcome while sufficiently sneaky intruders may slip through unnoticed.
Supported factions include the three Great Houses, Hlaalu, Redoran, and Telvanni, as well as the Imperial Legion and the Temple. Each faction enforces access to its own vaults and treasuries, with rank requirements varying by location. Independent restricted areas such as private banks and Indoril vaults treat all visitors as intruders regardless of affiliation.
-
[]Faction Awareness: Guards check your faction rank before treating you as an intruder. High-ranking members are welcome. Low-ranking ones are not.[/]
[]Line of Sight: Guards only react if they can actually see you. Sneak past them or break line of sight to avoid confrontation.[/]
[]Warning Countdown: Spotted guards give you a few seconds to leave before attacking. The clock ticks down on screen.[/]
[]Stealth Escape: Invisibility, high Chameleon, or sneaking with a sufficiently high Sneak skill will cause guards to stand down.[/]
[]Bounty and Expulsion: Overstaying your welcome results in a bounty and potential expulsion from the faction whose vault you invaded.[/]
[]Tracking: Guards turn to face you while you're in their sight, making it harder to simply walk past them.[/]
[]Investigating: after you disappear, guards will check the last place they saw you in.[/]

This OpenMW mod makes Morrowind's vault guards enforce their authority, giving trespassers a brief warning before attacking. It's a small, focused gameplay tweak for players who want more consequence for breaking into restricted areas. With 27 endorsements and recent updates, it's a niche but functional addition.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Adds real stakes to vault raiding—no more free loot without consequences.
- Tight, focused design: does one thing and does it well.
- Recently updated (August 2026), so it's likely compatible with current OpenMW builds.
⚠️ Cons
- Tiny community footprint (27 endorsements) means limited testing feedback.
- Only affects vaults—if you wanted broader guard AI changes, this won't cover it.
For Morrowind players who want a bit more challenge and realism when sneaking into vaults. If you're tired of guards ignoring your trespassing, this mod adds a welcome layer of danger. Skip if you prefer unrestricted looting or play on the original engine—this is OpenMW only.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you're running OpenMW, not the original Morrowind executable—this mod won't work on the latter.
- If you're using a mod manager like MO2, just drop the mod folder into your OpenMW data directory and enable it in the launcher.
- Test with a save before entering a vault to see the new guard behavior in action.
