    Description

A simple mod that brings nighttime curfew enforcement to Morrowind. Guards and Ordinators will spot you wandering the streets after dark and, if they have low disposition, escort you to the nearest safe shelter: an inn, a temple, a cornerclub, or whatever warm door they can find nearby.

    How It Works

When night falls (11:00 pm / 23:00 by default), guards on patrol will notice you if you're out in the open. A nearby guard approaches, delivers a line of dialogue, then walks you to the closest safe interior door. You're expected to follow. Stray too far and you'll be charged with loitering.

Once the guard reaches the door, you have a moment to step inside. After you enter, the guard teleports back to their original patrol point and resumes their normal routine. The escort is over and both of you go about your business.

Additional settings, like who's considered a guard, what a safe place is and so on, can be found in nightpatrol_shared.lua

    Night Patrol Escort AI

If you use the latest OPENMW 0. 51, you don't need any of this, install the Night Patrol Escort AI.

The original version uses Travel AI to send guards to safe places. This AI Package isn't really suited for a task like this, there's a much better alternative, Escort AI. Unfortunately, right now it's kind of broken, but it's easy to fix.

    \resources\vfs\scripts\omw\ai.lua

    There, find

    self:_startAiEscort(args.target, args.destCell or self.cell, args.duration or 0, args.destPosition, cancelOther)Change it to

    self:_startAiEscort(args.target, args.destCell or self.cell, args.duration or 0, args.destPosition, args.isRepeat or false, cancelOther)

Then you can download the Night Patrol Escort AI and enjoy stable escorting. For instance, guards will no longer be distracted by noticing you.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Night Patrol for OpenMW makes guards crack down on night loitering. If you're caught outside with low disposition or without a light source, you'll be escorted to the nearest inn or tavern. A small immersion mod with 32 endorsements, updated August 2026.

✨ Key Features

Guards will escort you to the nearest inn or tavern if they find you suspicious at night.
Suspicion is triggered by low disposition or not carrying a light source in your hand.
Designed for OpenMW, the open-source Morrowind engine.
Category: Immersion, adding realistic guard behavior to night-time activities.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Tiny but focused mod that makes night-time wandering riskier and more immersive.
  • Simple trigger system: low disposition or no light in hand means you get escorted.
  • Fresh update (August 2026) — actively maintained, so it's likely compatible with current OpenMW builds.

⚠️ Cons

  • Only 32 endorsements — a niche mod with a small following, so community feedback is limited.
  • The escort mechanic might get repetitive if you're often out at night without a light — could become annoying rather than immersive.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Morrowind players who want more realistic guard behavior and a reason to carry a torch at night. If you're a roleplayer who enjoys consequences for suspicious actions, this adds a nice layer. Skip if you prefer unrestricted exploration or find forced escort mechanics tedious.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you're running OpenMW, not the original Morrowind engine — this mod is built for OpenMW.
  • Carry a torch or lantern in your hand when wandering at night to avoid triggering the escort.
  • If you're playing a character with low disposition, consider raising your reputation or avoiding guards after dark.
