📋 About This Mod
Object Insight Tooltip is an OpenMW Lua mod that adds a configurable information panel when looking at objects in the world.
Description
This started as a simple object-source tooltip, but now provides more useful at-a-glance information for items, equipment, and placed objects.
It's more of a workaround until engine-side tooltip support is implemented in OpenMW.
Requirements
OpenMW 0. 51 or newer
- Shows the source/content file for the object you are looking at
- Shows useful record/object IDs for debugging large modlists
- Displays weapon stats, including base DPS and player-adjusted effective DPS
- Displays armor stats, including raw Armor Rating and player-adjusted effective Armor Rating
- Compares weapons and armor against your currently equipped item in the matching slot
- Shows the stat difference inline, for example:
- Base DPS: 12. 4 (+2. 3)
- Effective DPS: 9. 8 (+1. 7)
- Base Armor Rating: 80 (+70)
- Effective Armor Rating: 106. 7 (+93. 3)
- Recolors the relevant stat line depending on whether the viewed item is higher, lower, or equal
- Configurable position, alignment, vertical anchor, background, scale, opacity, and visibility options
What it does
When you look at an item or object in the world, the mod adds an extra tooltip panel with useful technical and gameplay information.
For weapons, it shows raw record-based DPS and an additional player-adjusted effective DPS estimate. The effective estimate accounts for the player's relevant weapon skill, Strength, Agility, Luck, current fatigue, item condition, and launcher/ammo combinations where applicable.
For armor, it shows raw Armor Rating and an additional player-adjusted effective Armor Rating estimate. The effective estimate accounts for the relevant Light/Medium/Heavy Armor skill and item condition. It compares both raw and effective values against armor currently equipped in the same slot.
For other objects, it can show where the object comes from, which is useful for debugging large modlists or identifying which plugin added something.
Installation instructions
Install like a normal OpenMW mod and enable:
content=Object Insight Tooltip.omwscripts
Make sure the mod folder is included in your OpenMW data paths.
Compatibility
As far as I am aware, it does not conflict with any other mod.
It may have some limitations, in the sense that it may not support mods that add their own custom skills that modify the stats calculation.
I haven't tested with any.
Notes
This mod is intended as a practical quality-of-life and debugging tool for heavily modded OpenMW setups.
