📋 About This Mod
This mod contains auto-generated Normal/Height Maps which provides a huge improvement on so many textures! Watch features pop out! Stones in walls, carvings in wood, details on clothing, Argonians scales! Importantly no textures look bad due to this mod, there are none I've found to be detrimental despite testing, nor have there been any reports of such by the 6000+ people who've downloaded this mod. It can really modernise the game whilst staying true to vanilla.
This won't work in Vanilla Morrowind! Requires OpenMW or plugins that enhance the original engine. Bump mapping was a broken feature in the original engine.
The process is automated so are the the best normal maps possible? No, but they aren't bad either, the settings were set cautiously to improve every texture and ruin none. Yet they can be quite dramatic.
Download the 1K Textures as normal through the Nexus!
New to this? How to install, download and unzip the file then drop the "textures" file into your "data files" folder.
WHERE ARE THE TEXTURES? This mod used to include textures, but they weren't to some peoples taste and some messed things up.
I recommend using this mod alongside Morrowind Enhanced Textures:

Or another mod that replaces every vanilla texture with a HD one.
(Feel free to redistribute, though please credit)
This mod adds 1K normal maps, ambient occlusion, gloss, and height maps for nearly every vanilla texture in OpenMW. It enhances visual depth and lighting detail for players seeking improved graphics without replacing original textures. With 375 endorsements and 21,380 downloads, it's a popular choice for Morrowind modding.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge coverage—nearly every vanilla texture gets enhanced, so you'll see improvements across the whole game.
- 1K resolution keeps performance impact reasonable while still adding noticeable depth.
- Community-approved with 375 endorsements and over 21k downloads—clearly a go-to for OpenMW players.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2021—might not be tested with the latest OpenMW versions, so expect potential compatibility hiccups.
- Only covers vanilla textures; modded textures won't get the same treatment unless you manually add them.
For OpenMW players who want to boost Morrowind's visuals without overhauling the art style. If you're into texture mods and want a simple, comprehensive enhancement, this is a solid pick. Skip if you're using heavy texture replacers that already include normal maps.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you're using OpenMW, not the original Morrowind engine—this mod is built for OpenMW's rendering.
- If you're using a mod manager like MO2, install this as a separate mod and place it after other texture mods in your load order to avoid conflicts.
- Check the mod's forum or comments for any user-reported issues with newer OpenMW versions before installing.
