📋 About This Mod
Some instructions and a little mod to hide informations that the player is not supposed to see (Names, places, status, ...)
Much of this "mod" isn't a mod: it's essentialy a set of instructions to hide informations that the player is not supposed to see (Names, places, status, ...). This implies a re-compilation of OpenMW (see below). Because, for the moment, it's not possible to do most of these things for OpenMW with a mod.
So, we are going to hide (all those changes are optional; you can modulate):
- the mini map: because the player character doesn't have a magical map
- the cell name on the global/local map: because the player is not supposed to guess for sure the name of the cell he is into.
- the position and compass on the map: the player can't guess for sure its position, and he doesn't have a compass
- the tooltip on the local map (We must keep the local map because of the detect spells... - UPDATE: now we have HUDMarkers - Detect spells): the player character can't guess for sure the cell around him.
- the display of the name of the cell when the player change cell: because the player is not supposed to guess for sure the name of the cell he is into. And he's not supposed to know when cell change.
- the name of the NPC in the tooltip: ok, i think you have understood the principle... (and now we display the race instead of the name, thanks to kindi!)
- the name of the NPC in the dialogue and trade window: same principle. Now, to know a NPC name, you have to, for example, talk with him and ask the Background topic. Sometimes you will get his name, sometimes no.
- the trader gold amount in the trade window: the player can't know that.
- the name of the NPC corpse (container): of course...
- the date and time (rest window): the player character can't always guess the date and time. I recommend a mod to ask date and time to NPC (see below)
- the trap information on the doors/containers: now, to know if a door/container is trapped, you can, for example,
- the lock/unlock information on the doors/containers: now, to know if a door/container is locked, you can, for example, try to open it. Yes, like in real life...
- the destination display on the door: now, to know where a door leads, you can, for example, open it. Yes, like in real life...
And we are going to improve some messages concerning locked/trapped doors/containers...
Ok. Now, to do much of these things you must modify some source code files, then recompile the OpenMW source code.
This is the documentation to get and compile the source code:
https://wiki.openmw.org/index.php?title=Development_Environment_Setup
There are 8 source files to modify:
- .../mwgui/mapwindow.cpp
- .../mwgui/dialogue.cpp
- .../mwgui/tradewindow.cpp
- .../mwgui/container.cpp
