📋 About This Mod
First of all, this is directly a modification of Vurt's Morrowind Visual Resurgence. While every single texture is modified and as such doesn't strictly require MVR, I kindly request that you go give Vurt a download + endorsement if you enjoy this mod, since it wouldn't be possible without MVR as a base.
ANOTHER UPDATE
I've added an optional edit of the Project Atlas bat generator with PBR compatibility. I didn't include pre-made MVR PBR V2 Atlases because I know most people overlay SaintJ's textures with these. This generator creates full _nh and _spec atlases and sorts through your load order to match your mods. It handles missing spec and nh textures. You must have either all vanilla textures unpackaged or something like MET that replaces them because MVR PBR v2 does not fully cover every asset needed for Atlases.
UPDATE
A new beta v2 version has been posted. It is based of Vurt's high res textures this time, has a much better assignment of PBR values than before, better heightmaps and normals, and is tuned for use with my POM shader (or Wareya's). It is a beta, I still have plenty of tweaking and some landscape texture upscaling left to do. At the moment I could not get good looking metal f0s for Rafael's PBR so the metal support is only for Wareya's. Everything except the optional metals file works for Rafael's PBR. If you want metal armors and Rafael's PBR then use this mod.
Purpose: Long story short this converts MVR into a baseline replacer to layer other texture packs on with parallax and PBR support, including subsurface scattering, roughness, and ambient occlusion. This is meant to be more realistic, if you want a stylized look please check out my other mods linked below.
Usage: This contains all the MVR textures with directional lighting mostly removed as well as normal maps, parallax maps, and optional PBR maps. It's structured in a BAIN folder style.
- If you're using vanilla OpenMW you only need 00.
- If you use Wareya's or Rafael's PBR than you can also use 01.
- There are also optional patches for all of Vurt's animated trees (02-05), these are mainly designed to add subsurface scattering and don't change the textures much otherwise, so only the full PBR versions are included, however if you want the textures without PBR just search for "*_spec.dds" and delete all the files in the directory.
Once you've chosen which folders you want, in the OpenMW launcher you can append the directories. The easiest way to do this is to p
This mod enhances Vurt's Morrowind Visual Resurgence by removing baked lighting and adding normal, parallax, and optional PBR maps (smoothness, AO, subsurface scattering). It's compatible with Vanilla OpenMW and Wareya's and Rafael's PBR patches, offering improved depth and realism for Morrowind's textures.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-tested with 83 endorsements and nearly 7k downloads—solid niche following.
- Breathes new life into Vurt's classic textures with modern normal and parallax mapping.
- Flexible PBR options let you tailor visuals to your OpenMW setup.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires Vurt's Morrowind Visual Resurgence as a base—not standalone.
- PBR features need OpenMW and specific PBR patches, adding setup complexity.
- Only 83 endorsements—smaller user base means less troubleshooting feedback.
For Morrowind players using OpenMW who want enhanced depth and realism from Vurt's textures without overhauling the entire look. Ideal for modders comfortable with PBR setups. Skip if you prefer vanilla-style flat textures or aren't using OpenMW.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Ensure you have Vurt's MVR installed first, then overwrite with this mod's files.
- For PBR, enable OpenMW's PBR support and install Wareya's or Rafael's PBR patch as needed.
- Test with a single texture set before applying to your whole load order to confirm compatibility.
