📋 About This Mod
I always found the death of Dagoth Gares a little bland, even for vanilla Morrowind. A major moment when you slay a servant of Dagoth Ur, and contract Corprus disease - and all you get to signal it is a cryptic text popup and a journal entry? This mod tries to make that moment more cinematic.
Now, Dagoth Gares will greet you as you enter the sanctum with custom voices, the same way Dagoth Ur does when you walk through his facility.
When you kill him, he will sink to his knees and give you a voiced-line of, 'Even as my Master wills, you shall come to him, in his flesh, and of his flesh.' - before collapsing and coughing up corprus.
I've swapped the model to a unique ash-ghoul model with a hood.
Because Dagoth Gares now speaks to voice the most important lines from his dialogue to you out loud as you go through Ilunibii, I've removed the slightly jarring forced-text greeting part of the vanilla morrowind.
The only edits are to the Dagoth Gares creature record and to the script - so it should work with most mods that edit the location, such as New Ilunibi.
Built and tested on OpenMW - any issues on vanilla MW, please let me know.
Known Issues:
Player controls are frozen during Gares final speech. If there are still some other hostiles alive in the area when the player defeats Gares, they may get some free hits in on the player. Make sure you dispatch them first! Only really an issue on modded areas, such as New Ilunibi, which add many more hostile NPCs to Soul's Rattle.
Voice - Me, run through a filter generated from Warcraft 3 Lich voice lines, of all things.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 181 endorsements and 17k downloads.
- Adds a cinematic touch to a key story beat without overhauling the whole game.
- Custom voices and animations are a nice touch for Morrowind's dated presentation.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects one character's scenes—if you're not invested in Dagoth Gares, this won't matter to you.
- Requires Morrowind modding knowledge to install manually, as no mod manager support is mentioned.
For Morrowind players who want to enhance the game's storytelling with a more dramatic presentation of Dagoth Gares. If you're a lore enthusiast or enjoy immersion mods, this is a neat addition. Skip if you're looking for gameplay changes or broader visual overhauls.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have Morrowind's official patch or a mod like Morrowind Code Patch installed to avoid conflicts with custom animations.
- Use a mod manager like Wrye Mash or Mod Organizer 2 to keep track of file overwrites, especially if you have other animation mods.
- Test the mod early in your playthrough to ensure the custom voices don't clash with other voice replacers.
