📋 About This Mod
If you're a player, this is just a dependency for other mods. It doesn't do anything on its own.
Overview
Or why you should use this utility.
Follower Detection Util (FDU) has two primary goals:
-
[]Centralize follower detection. Follower status is calculated once and shared across all follower-related mods, instead of being re-evaluated independently by each one.[/]
[]Make follower tracking convenient. Instantly access follower state from almost any script scope (Global, Player, NPC, Creature), register handlers for follower state changes, and query relationships with minimal overhead[/]
Idea
Each NPC and Creature is assigned a State containing:
-
[]Actor - the actor this state belongs to[/]
[]Leader - the actor being followed[/]
[]Super Leader - the actor the leader follows (used mainly for summons)[/]
[]Follows player - true if either Leader or Super Leader is the player[/]
Both State and FollowerList can be accessed with FDU interfaces.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid community trust with 180 endorsements and over 30k downloads
- Actively maintained—updated July 2026, so it's fresh
- Essential backbone for modders who want follower systems without reinventing the wheel
⚠️ Cons
- Not a standalone mod—requires other mods to actually use it, so it's useless on its own
- No documentation or usage examples provided in the description, so you'll need to dig into the code or find external guides
- OpenMW-only—won't work with the original Morrowind engine, limiting its audience
For OpenMW modders who build follower-related mods and need a reliable tracking library. Also for players who use follower mods that depend on this utility—you'll need it installed for those to work. Skip if you're just a casual player looking for direct gameplay changes; this is a backend tool.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a library, check if your favorite follower mod lists it as a dependency—install it first if so.
- OpenMW mods typically go into the 'Data Files' folder; make sure you enable it in the launcher's content list.
- If you're a modder, look at the mod's source code on the Nexus to see how to integrate it into your own mods.
