📋 About This Mod

This mod allows players to gain experience for spells that fail to cast. I will eventually broaden the scope of this mod to grant progress on all failed skills in line with OEA's Practice Makes Perfect by opiter09.

Failed Cast Progress - OpenMW Edition

This mod is a native OpenMW implementation inspired by OEA Practice Makes Perfect by opiter09. If you are using MWSE, please support the original mod and author.

I am working on implementing this approach for all skills and will patch and edit this mod page once I am done.

In Morrowind, successful spellcasting improves magical skills, but failed casting attempts provide no progress at all. A novice mage can spend hours struggling to cast a difficult spell without learning anything from the experience. Failed Cast Progress changes this by rewarding magical practice, even when the spell does not succeed.

Failed Cast Progress grants configurable skill experience when a spellcasting attempt fails. The mod detects the school associated with the selected spell and awards experience to the appropriate magic skill when the cast fails to complete successfully. Successful casts retain their normal vanilla behavior and continue to gain experience through the game's standard progression system.

The result is a more intuitive and immersive learning curve for magic users. Apprentices gradually improve through repeated practice, while experienced characters continue to benefit primarily from successful spellcasting. The system rewards persistence without replacing the value of successful casts.
