📋 About This Mod
Anyone who played an MMO in their life probably knows what this is. It's a log. Well, not that log - it's not a chunk of wood, but, you know, the thing for keeping records. This mod explicitly does exactly this. It shows everything that happens around you. Someone took damage? Logged. Someone cast a spell? Logged. You picked up a flower? Logged. Someone sneezed in the vicinity? Logged. You know, the good stuff. All configurable through the in-game settings menu.
Main features
-
[]Displays the scrollable, resizeable and moveable log window on player's screen.[/]
[]Displays and stores damage dealt with melee, range, and spells, as well as voice lines, items picked, quest stages, and whatnot.[/]
[]Configurable what exactly this log would display or how it will store it: per-session is default, but there is a also a persistent mode that saves all logs to your save (expect some save file size growth and enable at your risk). Settings are under 'OpenMW Chat Log' in the scripts settings menu.[/]
[]Change the transparency, font size, or disable the background texture in settings.[/]
[]Out-of-box compatible with my UI retextures (sic! place retextures after this mod in the load order).[/]
Now, a huge disclaimer for people who consider this important:
This mod was built using AI. I'm not a coder myself - I know jack shit about lua scripting. This mod wouldn't have been possible without generative AI. If that's a deal breaker for you - it's up to you whether to use this mod or not. You've been warned.
Adds a configurable MMO-style event log window to OpenMW. Tracks melee, ranged, and spell damage, voice lines, picked items, quest stages, and more, with in-game settings for display and storage (per-session or persistent saves). For players who want detailed on-screen activity tracking. Currently has 0 endorsements and downloads.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tracks almost everything you'd want in a combat/event log, including damage types and quest stages.
- In-game settings menu makes tweaking what appears and how it looks painless.
- Zero endorsements so far, but it's a fresh release (Aug 2026) with a feature set OpenMW has lacked.
⚠️ Cons
- Author admits it was built with AI and they don't know Lua scripting, so bugs may go unpatched or take time to fix.
- Persistent logging mode saves all events to your save file, causing save bloat and is explicitly flagged 'at your risk'.
- No endorsements or downloads yet, so there's no community testing or feedback to lean on.
For OpenMW players who want an MMO-style event log for damage, spells, item pickups, and quest updates. For detail-oriented players who like in-game UI customization (transparency, font size). Skip if you're on the original Morrowind engine or if save file size is a concern with persistent logging.
💡 Beginner Tips
- After installing, load a save and open the in-game scripts settings menu to find 'OpenMW Chat Log' and configure what appears.
- If you enable persistent logging, watch your save file size; per-session is safer for normal play.
- Pair this with the author's UI retextures for a cohesive look, as they're tested together.
