📋 About This Mod

UPDATE: TES3MP updated to 0. 8, and in doing so, it upgraded to using OpenMW 0. 47 as a base. This means that, if you are running TES3MP v0. 8 or greater, you actually want to get the OpenMW file. I will however leave the TES3MP file up for those who insist on still using 0. 7.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was always pretty annoyed by how NPCs could enchant with a 100% success rate and you couldn't no matter what. This mod fixes that! Other mods exist that attempt to do the same thing, but after investigating the files from those mods and doing some research, I found that most of these mods actually make enchanting harder due to a misunderstanding of the enchanting formula. This mod is tried and tested, and will work for sure.

This mod will not make it so you can create god items at the beginning of the game. It was balanced so that when your enchanting skill and intelligence were each 150, and your Luck 40, you would be able to make any enchantment (max 360 enchantment points for Exquisite Rings and Amulets) with a nearly 100% success rate. You can now truly become a master of enchanting, without potions or other exploits!

Non-OpenMW and TES3MP Users:

The old formulae:

Cast Once Success = Enchanting + 0. 25Intelligence + 0. 125Luck - 2. 5Enchantment Points

Constant Effect Success = Enchanting + 0. 25Intelligence + 0. 125Luck - 5Enchantment Points

The new formulae:

Cast Once Success = Enchanting + 0. 25Intelligence + 0. 125Luck - 0. 083Enchantment Points

Constant Effect Success = Enchanting + 0. 25Intelligence + 0. 125Luck - 0. 2569Enchantment Points

That might look like a crazy change up there, but that's because the vanilla game is so massively unbalanced.

OpenMW users: Your formula is slightly different because OpenMW's enchanting success formula is completely different from vanilla, so note that your success rates at lower levels will be different from the non-OpenMW version, but they are still balanced around being able to make any Cast On Use/Strike enchant with Enchanting 100, Intelligence 100, Luck 40, and a full fatigue bar, and any constant effect enchantment with Enchanting 150, Intelligence 150, Luck 40, and a full fatigue bar.

Here are the OpenMW formulae:

Old formulae:

Cast Once Success = Enchanting + 0. 2Intelligence + 0. 1Luck - 3EnchantmentPoints) fatigueTerm (1. 25 at full fatigue)

Constant Effect Success = Cast Once Success 0. 5

New formulae:

Cast Once Success = Enchanting + 0. 2Intelligence + 0. 1Luck - 0. 1222EnchantmentPoints) fatigueTerm (1. 25 at full fatigue)

Constant Effect Success = Cast Once Success 0. 5682

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-trusted with 196 endorsements and over 8,600 downloads
  • Fixes a real annoyance—NPCs always succeed at enchanting while players struggle
  • Provides separate files for OpenMW and TES3MP, so it's compatible with modern setups

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in January 2021, so it may not be compatible with the latest game versions or mods
  • The formula changes are drastic, which might make enchanting too easy for some players
  • Potential conflicts with other mods that alter enchanting mechanics or formulas
🎯 Is This For You?
For Morrowind players who are tired of failing enchantments and want a balanced path to mastery without exploits. It's ideal for those who play with OpenMW or TES3MP and want a fair enchanting system. Skip if you prefer the vanilla challenge or use other enchanting overhaul mods.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Choose the correct file: OpenMW users need the OpenMW version, while TES3MP v0.8+ users should also use the OpenMW file.
  • If you're using TES3MP v0.7, stick with the TES3MP file provided.
  • Test enchanting at low levels to see the difference—you'll notice higher success rates early on.
