📋 About This Mod

This mod changes weights of most weapons, armors and some other items. Basically one-handed weapons made lighter, two-handed swords left almost the same, spears and halberds made heavier, unreasonably high weights of daedric and ebony items

Common Sense Weight Balance Mod

Have you ever been bothered by the default balance of weights in game?

Like, does a one-handed sword weighing "40" of something makes any sense to you? Why "40", what "40", is it even reasonable somehow except for Bethesda's abstract concept of game balance?

Well, if you do, this little mod is for you.

The idea of the mod is based on the work of Insicht, published on Nexus by Monsterzeichner. My mod shares the base idea about in-game weight unit being a value of 100 metric grams, so fully-trained character without any magical or alchemical boost can carry a max of 50 kg's, which is quite a reasonable and realistic amount for a physically-fit and well-trained warrior, so that's perfectly fine with me.

But what's by all means NOT FINE is a Bethesda's approach to weighing weapons, armor, and some other items. Even if we agree on convention about weight unit conversion, a sword weighing "40" units would mean that it weights 4kg. 4kg for one-handed sword lol, haha, but no!

Ever tried taking something near that weight and making a few swings with one hand? Well, you can try for yourself, but there is a reason why real historical swords, axes, spears and other close-combat weapons never weighted that much, except for some exceptional two-handed large weapons like 14th-century halberd (which weight varied between 2. 5 and 5. 5 kg's and that would be a two-handed weapon meant to be used in a mixed unit maneuvers against heavily-armored enemy). So, the "typical" real-world weight of a one-handed sword-like weapon would be closer to 1 - 1. 5 kg and not "4", not "6" and by all means not "9" kg's, in game units being valued between 10-15 and not "40", not "60" and not "90" respectively. Some sword-like weapons would actually weigh less than 1kg, like mid-eastern sabers for example.

So, this mod simply aims to fix that, making weights of most items like weapons, armor, arrows etc. closer to their real-world prototypes, based on the convention that one in-game weight unit equals 100 metric grams. This mod DOES change a game balance, seemingly making it somewhat easier as you can carry more weapons in your inventory, yes, but no cheating is intended, NO WEIGHTLESS ARROWS, NO WEIGHTLESS INGREDIENTS and so on is presented here. In fact, arrows, and some of the armors and weapons are made heavier by this mod lol. All weight changes are based on the common sense, information on historical melee weapons, and weapon materials, e.g. "iron" weapons and armor are made heavier than their steel counterparts because raw iron is actually a more crude and primitive material and you basically need a thicker layer of raw iron to have the same protecti
