📋 About This Mod
The awesome Concept Art Palace (Vivec City) mod creates a dramatic atmosphere for the whole Palace area, especially with the green flames that light up the nights.
The OpenMW version, though, for engine limitations doesn't (yet?) support the advanced glow and special effects, and only uses a flame texture on an animated mesh to achieve its result.
This mod is a very simple modification of the texture already provided by the OpenMWVersion of the C. A. P. original mod, improving its look and providing a better experience also to OpenMW players (well, it is of course subjective).
Installation
This is a simple texture edit, so you need the original mod to have everything work correctly:
From the original mod, you need to install
-
[]00 Core
[
]03 Flame - Option 2 (you need the provided mesh to have this work correctly)You can of course select any other customization option from the original mod besides the flame!
Then you can install my own custom flame replacement. Inside my archive, you have two separate options:
-
[]00 Green-Yellow: the original version, green-yellowish, looks closer to the original mod visuals
[
]00 Green-Blue: a new version added in v1. 1. 0, green-blueish, a color more similar to the windows on the palace dome and on the light orbs on the bridge.Pick only one, as they edit the same textures and are mutually exclusive. You can look at the screenshots for a comparison to make a choice (I recommend the green-blue version, as it has a more "magical fire" vibe than the original green-yellow "acid" look, but feel free to pick what you like the most)
My modification should load AFTER the original mod, so make sure that the directories are in the correct order:
/path/to/openmw/data/concept-art-palace/00 Core
/path/to/openmw/data/concept-art-palace/03 Flame - Option 2
/path/to/openmw/data/better-flames/00 Green-Yellow (or /path/to/openmw/data/better-flames/00 Green-Blue)
That's it, easy peasy.
Credits
A big thank to Vegetto88 and RandomPal for the original mods, of course all the credit goes to them.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 186 endorsements and nearly 49k downloads
- Lightweight and straightforward—just a texture swap, no scripts or heavy dependencies
- OpenMW-specific, so it's tailored for that engine's rendering
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects the green flames around Vivec Palace—if you wanted more flame variety, this isn't it
- No screenshots or detailed install notes provided, so you're flying blind until you try it
- May not be compatible with other mods that alter Vivec City textures—check for conflicts
For Morrowind players using OpenMW who want a subtle visual upgrade to Vivec City's iconic green flames. If you're a purist who loves the original look, skip it—this is purely cosmetic and doesn't change gameplay.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's for OpenMW, make sure you're not running the original Morrowind engine—this mod won't work there.
- Use a mod manager like MO2 or manually drop the files into your OpenMW data directory, then enable it in the launcher.
- If you have other Vivec City texture mods, load this one after them to ensure the flames show up correctly.
