Better Balanced Combat (BBC) is my attempt to modernize the dated Morrowind combat system without the use of MWSE while also fixing issues that arise when setting the hit chance to 100%. No MWSE dependency means that it also works with OpenMW and TES3MP.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Better Balanced Combat removes the dice roll hit chance from Skyrim's combat, making attacks land based on visual accuracy unless blocked. It also tweaks related game mechanics for a more modern, skill-based feel. With 2,022 endorsements and 66,466 downloads, it's a popular choice for players seeking less RNG in fights.

✨ Key Features

Removes the dice roll hit chance so attacks connect if they visually hit, unless blocked.
Adjusts game mechanics that were built around the hit chance system.
Complements other popular gameplay tweaks commonly used by the community.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community favorite with 2,022 endorsements and 66k downloads — clearly fills a need.
  • Makes combat feel more modern and skill-based, rewarding player aim and timing.
  • Pairs well with other gameplay overhauls, so you can stack it with your favorite tweaks.

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in August 2020 — may have compatibility issues with newer Skyrim versions or mods.
  • No detailed documentation on exactly which mechanics are changed, so you might need to test to see the full impact.
  • Removing hit chance could make combat too easy if you're used to the original system's unpredictability.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who hate missing attacks due to RNG and want combat to feel more like an action game. If you're tired of swinging at an enemy and whiffing for no reason, this mod is for you. Skip if you prefer the traditional dice-roll mechanics or want a full combat overhaul with new animations and AI.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since this mod changes core combat mechanics, test it in a low-stakes save to see if you like the feel before committing.
  • Check if your other combat mods are compatible — some may rely on the hit chance system and could conflict.
  • If you use a mod manager, install it like any other mod and load it after other gameplay overhauls to ensure it takes effect.
