📋 About This Mod
According to PoodleSandwich’s List of Morrowind Inconsistencies, the Mages' Guild quest giver, Skink-in-Tree's-Shade delivers the generic dialogue every sorcerer has concerning the cure for vampirism, which is basically nothing tangible, only a few rumors they've heard. It wouldn't be a problem in itself, however his last quest for a Mages' Guild member is finding Galur Rithari's Papers, a book which literally tells you how to cure your vampirism. This mod fixes this inconsistency. In this mod, he is going to deliver the generic sorcerer dialogue concerning the cure only before the quest is completed, and after it is completed, he won't act ignorant anymore, and tell you what to do to get rid of your vampirism, including directions to Bal Ur. I think that it can be assumed that as a researcher, he actually reads a book about the topic he researches, after you deliver it.
As a bonus feature, while picking up Galur Rithari's Papers still triggers the quest, A Cure for Vampirism, the entry associated with it is marked as "finished." Therefore, in case you don't plan to become a vampire, or get cured of your vampirism, the quest won't clutter your journal anymore. Naturally, either the journal entry of the priestess at Bal Ur or the entry you get from speaking with Molag Bal restarts the quest, in case you still decide to get cured later. A convenience feature for book collectors/non-vampire Mages' Guild members/Vampires who elect to remain vampires.
Compatibility:
It should be compatible with everything from a technical point of view. (Meaning: They could be played together, without any bugs, issues, crashes to desktop etc.) Story-wise, I cannot promise that the Skink in Rise of House Telvanni (whom you can recruit into the Telvanni and he would have his own tower) would act the desired way. It all depends on whether the author of that mod uses a different ID for the Telvanni Skink, or just puts the Mages' Guild Skink to a new place. If a new ID is used, Skink would deliver his generic sorcerer dialogue, if the same ID is used, then he would act the way this mod promises. Frankly, I was lazy to download the mod just to check the ID of the new Skink.
The mod has been cleaned with TESAME, and should be bug-free.
A Cure for Vampirism - Skink's Solution is a small immersion mod for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind that adds a dialogue option to Skink-in-Tree's-Shade after completing his quest about Galur Rithari's papers, preventing him from acting ignorant about the vampirism cure. It's for players who want more consistent roleplay and lore-friendly interactions.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tiny quality-of-life fix that makes Morrowind's world feel more reactive to your actions.
- Community-trusted with 129 endorsements and over 26,000 downloads.
- Zero bloat—does exactly what it says without touching anything else.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects one dialogue exchange—if you're expecting a full quest expansion, this isn't it.
- Last updated in 2021, so it might not be on your radar if you're using mod lists that require newer patches.
- No documentation on compatibility with other dialogue overhauls, so you might need to test load order.
For Morrowind roleplayers who hate when NPCs forget your heroic deeds. If you've ever finished Skink's quest and felt annoyed by his amnesia, this mod is a must-have. Skip it if you want gameplay changes—this is purely a dialogue consistency tweak.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the Morrowind Code Patch or OpenMW for best stability, though this mod works with vanilla.
- Load this mod after any dialogue overhaul mods to ensure its changes take priority.
- If you're using a mod manager, just drop the .esp into your Data Files folder and activate it in the launcher.
