Camille's Sniffer Loot Expansion

This datapack adds more loot that Sniffers can dig up. Now, whenever a Sniffer digs, it can find more varied and interesting loot, finally giving Sniffers a greater purpose.

All loot is vanilla, so there are no mod dependencies, and the loot is designed not to be overpowered.

This datapack is server-side only. Simply place it in the datapacks folder of your world.

This datapack can be added to existing worlds or removed from them at any time without causing issues, as it only slightly updates an existing vanilla game mechanic.

Here is the complete list of blocks Sniffers can dig in, in addition to the vanilla list:

```` sand, red_sand, gravel, snow_block, clay, mycelium, sculk, netherrack, basalt, crimson_nylium, warped_nylium, soul_sand, soul_soil, and end_stone. ````

When a Sniffer digs in certain blocks such as dirt, clay, snow, sand, red sand, gravel, soul sand, soul soil, moss, or pale moss, there is an 80% chance that it will dig up the block itself.

This makes these blocks renewable, including sand, which can be a very useful feature.

The loot a Sniffer can dig up depends on the dimension, the biome, and even the structure where the Sniffer is digging.

For example, in forests, you might find sticks and leaf litter. In plains, you might find seeds, even modded ones.

In deserts and badlands, you can find cactus. On beaches and in oceans, you can find ocean-related loot such as dead coral, turtle scutes, and even sponges or prismarine shards. Very rarely, you might find a bottle of water, like a message in a bottle, except there is no message in it, just water.

Very rarely, Sniffers can even find emeralds when digging in villages, like lost pocket change.

In ancient structures such as desert temples, jungle pyramids, ancient cities, and shipwrecks, Sniffers might find pottery sherds.

There are a few technically overpowered loot items. The most powerful ones are ores, emeralds, diamonds, and even Netherite Scraps. However, I have made sure that they are extremely rare, so they should not have a significant impact on gameplay.

For example, to obtain diamonds, a Sniffer must be digging in an Ancient City or an End City, which are dangerous late-game locations where diamonds are already less valuable. You would get so few of them that it would probably not even be worth farming them. So when I added the diamonds as diggable loot by the sniffer, the idea wasn't to make them farmable and easy to obtain, the idea was to make them a rare treasure you could hope to find.

As for Netherite Scraps, a Sniffer must be digging in a Bastion Remnant, one of the most dangerous structures in one of the most dangerous dimensions. They are also extremely rare. I would be impressed if you managed to obtain even a few Netherite Scraps through Sniffers in survival.

All of this is to say that the loot in this datapack is not meant to be overpowered. This datapack simply aims to give Sniffers more useful and balanced loot, giving them a greater purpose in the game.

You can test the datapack with the following command:

To create the images in the gallery, I used a repeating command block to repeatedly execute the command /loot give @a loot minecraft:gameplay/sniffer_digging and obtain a large amount of loot from specific locations. This gives an idea of the loot you can get in each location.

If there is a loot you don't like, or a loot you think is missing, or a loot too rare, or a loot too common, you can edit the files yourself and tweak the values however you please.
