📋 About This Mod

Guarantees the good outcome when looting a boss corpse in the end zone of a run.

Description

So you beat the final boss in a run, and now you want your loot. Get rekt, idiot! Your cat is dead, and you get nothing!

Well, not anymore. With this mod, your cats will become expert corpse pillagers who can never fail to retrieve those tasty boss items.

Q: Wait, what is this? Boss loot? Huh?

A: STOP! Don't keep reading unless you really want to be spoiled. You can always come back and look at this later.

Reasoning

You know what's fun? Taking on the extra challenge of killing an optional boss, and getting some fat loot as a reward!

You know what's not fun? Taking on the extra challenge of killing an optional boss, and getting punished for it!

In the vanilla game, boss loot events have two outcomes:

  • []You succeed, and get the loot.

[]You fail, your cat dies, and you get nothing.

With how grindy meta progression is, losing one of your cats sucks (That cat was 7% of an inventory upgrade! Not to mention the breeding potential). Maybe they had a cool mutation! Well, get rekt, it's gone now.

This is especially true when it's due to pure random chance. The game overall has a ton of crazy RNG, but it's largely very forgiving when you get a bad roll. Cat got downed? That's fine, just a minor stat penalty. Critically failed an event? Probably a Disorder at worst. So why are we getting demolished for daring to... try to claim the loot we earned?

To me, the logical conclusion is to Ignore every boss loot opportunity. This is extremely unfun, and makes fighting these cool end bosses unrewarding. Basically, I hate this system. So I modded it. Thanks to the devs for making it easy to do so.

    Installation

Simply use with Mewtator. If you're new to Mewtator:

    • []Mewtator is required.

[]Unzip the downloaded mod folder and place it in Mewtator\mods.

[]Run Mewtator.exe. First-time setup may be required.

[]Add the mod to the Enabled Mods list.

[]Launch the game through Mewtator to use mods.

      []That's it! Happy looting.

      Compatibility

This mod uses a gon.patch to try to be as compatible as possible. Hopefully I set things up correctly. As far as I understand, nothing should be affected except the bad outcomes of the boss corpse plundering events, which this mod overwrites. I set these to null, meaning they will be entirely excluded, and the game will always pick the good result since no bad result exists. This should be compatible with anything that doesn't specifically modify those bad outcome nodes.

If it stops working with other mods, try fiddling with the mod load order. Since this mod has very minimal effects, try loading it late in the load order (see Mewtator page description).
