SSRS - Squad Support Rifle System

Description

The SSRS (Squad Support Rifle System) is a flexible direct fire 30mm grenade launcher developed on Mars for the NNGSW (Next Next Generation Squad Weapon) program. Grenadiers using this carry a mixture of airburst fragmentation, CQB buckshot, and armour piercing ammunition.

Main features

The SSRS Mk1 aims to be an evolution of the XGr-20 CDTE. At a supply cost of 70, it is among the most expensive special weapons to field, for that price you get:

Airburst Fragmentation Grenades

Effective against tightly packed light infantry, especially in cover.

(Identical to the predecessor XGr-20's output, with 1 tile of extra range)

CQB Buckshot

A standard issue StoneClad CS185 12-gauge packs 9 00 buck pellets per shell. This thing packs 42.

(Similar to 4 squaddies firing Stoneclads. Slightly more effective against low-model-count units)

Armour Piercing Shells

Comparable to the 20mm HE Rounds of the MK20A3 Autocannon, these 30mm HEAT rounds are effective against heavy infantry and light armour. 

(Lower rate of fire, raw damage, and armour shredding than an Autocannon, but a much higher chance to penetrate.)

And no 10% malfunction chance. Five uses (at two shots per use) representing two five-round magazines of each ammunition type.

Misc

Appears with high regularity in the Black Market. Currently uses the 3d model of the R228A1 MRS, plus a grenade-launcher-appropriate backpack.

This weapon is intended as a swiss army knife (Squad Support Rifle System) that can contribute to any engagement. It won't outperform the tripod grenade launcher at dislodging entrenched infantry, it won't blaze a path through urban CQB like a flamethrower, and it won't replace the PAL for your anti tank needs. But it'll do a bit of all three.

It's been field tested, but numerical balance may be tweaked in future. The aim is to stay in line with existing game balance, so if the much maligned XGr-20 gets a buff the SSRS might too.
