War FX Lite

Description

I'm a huge fan of lordwedggie's War FX mod, but like a lot of fans, I'm put off by the intrusive pillars of black smoke every time I down a VTOL or step on a tank. It can make fighting in urban areas almost impossible without using a thermal mod, and probably impacts FPS on older PCs.

Therefore, I made this slight tweak to the original game files so that it will overwrite the files changed by the War FX mod that create black smoke pillars for the following:

Please note, in order to get this to work, I also had to overwrite some of the explosion files from the War FX mod with vanilla assets. This means that tanks, for example, won't look as cool when they die as they do in the War FX mod. Nothing's perfect!

Basically, you get (almost) all of the beauty of War FX, without as much of the smog.

Installation

Just download and unzip into your usual MW5 mods folder, load it above War FX in your load order, and you're good to go. You should get a warning that this mod is overwriting some of War FX's content.

I didn't touch buildings as I think it's very atmospheric when a fortress or city is burning to the ground for there to be a lot of smoke. But as an added bonus, this mod stops the trees from burning for 5 minutes.

Compatability

Should work with everything that War FX works with. Just remember to load it above War FX, otherwise it won't work.

Don't use the built-in MW5 mod tool as it won't let you change the load order - instead, I'd recommend using the MW5 Load Order Tools (LOTS) by Jamie Wolf (https://discourse.modsinexile.com/t/mw5-load-order-tool-set-lots/249).
