📋 About This Mod
A ballistic Catapult variant - designed to be lore-sensitive even though it's not canon. Special order for a friend.
The CPLT-K2B is an uncommon variant of the Draconis Combine's CPLT-K2. While never an officially constructed variant the K2 Ballistic Refit Kit is believed to have originated from the Federated Suns in the late 3030's due to the increased number of CPLT-K2's being found and salvaged on the battlefield.
A relatively 'simple' refit, the K2B removes the additional heatsinks installed in the torsos and strips the arms of their PPC's and any energy equipment, replacing it with an Autocannon AC5 with 1 ton of integrated ammunition. This leaves the CPLT-K2B with an unused ton for additional equipment. The most common choices were to either leave one of the K2's torso heatsinks in place or to add an additional ton of armour to the mech.
Requires Yet Another Mechlab and Yet Another Weapon. One variant requires DLC5 to show up.
I've had a couple of questions about why I didn't call it the CPLT-D2 (since Davion stuff) - such a designation would be a little too "official" in my books, like it was an proper mech project, with factory lines dedicated to producing it, where in fact it's more just gutting the ears and refitting them (barring some field alternative loadouts, and the Capellan silliness).
A lore-sensitive non-canon Catapult variant for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, imagining a Federated Suns retrofit that swaps the K2's lasers for ballistic arm weapons. Requires Yet Another Mechlab (YAML) to use. With 136 endorsements and 6,286 downloads, it's a niche but popular choice for YAML players seeking new mech options.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid community backing with 136 endorsements and over 6,000 downloads.
- Fills a niche for YAML players who want ballistic Catapult options.
- Lore-sensitive approach makes it feel like a natural fit for the setting.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires YAML, so it's useless if you don't run that mod.
- Last updated in late 2025, so it might not be compatible with future game patches.
For MechWarrior 5 players who already use YAML and want a new ballistic Catapult variant to add variety to their mech bay. If you're not into YAML or prefer canon-only mechs, this isn't for you.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure YAML is installed and up to date before adding this mod, or the mech won't appear.
- Check the mod's load order in your mod manager—place it after YAML to avoid conflicts.
- If you're new to YAML, test this mech in a custom match to see how it handles before using it in campaign.
