North Grand Prix Circuit

The North Grand Prix Circuit was first revealed in 1996 in Sweden. It would be the first time the World Prototypes Championship (WPSC) would race in Sweden. The circuit was designed by the Angeloes brothers (Sven, Marcel) and the Anderson brothers (Eric, Burti) on an airport. But 1996 was the start of WPSC's decline along with the upstart of the newly formed Global Endurance Prototype Series (GEPS). But even with the upstart of a new racing series, Sven and Burti could'nt raise enough money to build the track, mostly due to increasing skepticism amongst investors and fellow swedes. But WPSC was financially spiralling out of control in the 2000s and with teams leaving one by one for GEPS. 2007 was the final straw for WPSC before running out of money to run the sport. In April 2013, Sven, Marcel, Eric and Burti finally raised enough money and got permission from the Swedish Government and the International Federation of Motorsports (IFM) to build the race track. The track was finished on january 2014. One of the main features of the track was its unusual pit lane. The reason the pitlane is the way it is was because the track had to conform to the 2 groups regulation by GEPS. Group 1 would go to the frst hangar while Group 2 would go to the second hangar. Group 1 would skip the second hangar when exiting the first hangar while Group 2 would skip the first hangar and go directly to the secong hangar. At first this track was facing heavy opposition from the fans due to the rather simplistic layout. But they were proven wrong when GEPS held the 12 Hours of Sweden in September of 2014. Everyone adored the track due to the amazing strategy, top speeds and most importantly, amazing battles for positions. Drivers loved the track, mainly due to its fast nature. That race was won by Sebastian Debarco with an overall win. he would go on to win the championship in only his second season. P.
