📋 About This Mod
Hey there, this is my first mod. I'm only doing this project in my free time, so don't expect regular updates - I only work on this mod when I have the time and feel like it. It's also a bit rough around the edges right now (some textures don't blend into each other as good as I would like to and probably need reworking), but I think it already gives off quite a nice "winter vibe". If you have any suggestions on what I could change or improve, please feel free to tell me!
Current features
-
[]New textures for terrain, roads, etc.
[
]New textures for vegetation[]New textures for some roofs (currently only the generic roof textures for most of the houses are snowy, but not the individual ones which are used in all the bigger buildings like castles, the monastery, etc.)
Not yet included features
-
[]New textures for all roofs (quite a bit of work since there are also other textures of the same building included in the files which hold the roof textures)
[]New textures for the roofs of low LOD models of houses (the low LOD models also have low resolution textures, which have to be replaced seperately, so right now the roofs are only snowy when you're up close but not when you're looking at a model from far away)
[]Change the rain overlay to snowflakes (also quite a bit of work, as I also have to replace/delete the rain sounds, change the snow/rain falling speed und maybe add a sideways movement to make the snow look more realistic - I have to do a bit more research on this topic, as I'm not sure how to manage this right now)
[]Replace the sound from walking on grass into a sound that sounds as if you are walking in snow (not yet sure how much work this is going so take, as I haven't looked into modding sound at all)
[]Add lower resolution textures for better loading times on low texture settings
Requirements
-
[]The mod has no dependencies and should work with any game version
Installation
- [
[]Go to your KCD installation directory
[]Create a folder named "Mods", if it doesn't already exist
[]Extract the folder "Snow-Mod" from the zip file into the "Mods" folder
Uninstalling
-
[]just delete the "Snow-Mod" folder from your "Mods" directory
Recommended Mods/Fixes
-
[]ReShade by crosire (I used ReShade in all of my screenshots, and would recommend you use it too, as it can boost the colors a bit and just gives a overall more polished look to the game)
[
]set e_VolumetricFog=1 in the user.cfg file for more fog (this setting is also used in the screenshots) - use an ENB and change the "brightness night" value from 1 to 0. 4 or less to make the nights darker (thanks, Sylvain49!)

Snow Mod is a texture overhaul that adds a winter vibe to the game by replacing terrain, road, vegetation, and some roof textures with snowy variants. It is the author's first mod, developed in free time, and currently lacks full roof coverage and LOD support. With 203 endorsements and 6,090 downloads, it offers a partial but atmospheric winter conversion.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Gives the world a solid winter vibe with snowy terrain, roads, and vegetation
- No dependencies and works with any game version, so it's easy to slot into your load order
- Community has shown some love with 203 endorsements and 6,090 downloads
⚠️ Cons
- Roof textures are incomplete – only generic roofs get snow, so castles and monasteries stay snow-free
- Low LOD models don't get snowy roofs, so distant buildings look out of place
- Author admits textures are rough around the edges and updates are sporadic – don't expect fixes soon
For players who want a quick winter makeover without overhauling the whole game. If you're okay with some visual inconsistencies and just want snowy ground and trees, this is for you. Skip if you need complete coverage or polished textures – this is a work in progress.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since the mod has no dependencies, just drop the files into your game's texture folder or use a mod manager if you prefer.
- If you're using other texture mods, load Snow Mod after them to ensure its textures take priority.
- Check the mod page for updates – the author works on it sporadically, so you might miss new fixes if you don't check back.
