📋 About This Mod

Idea

I have enjoyed KCD since the first moment I saw it. However, this is not to say that the game is without issues. The one that has bothered me is the condition of NPCs apparel. While the player can repair their clothes, NPCs don't do it. As a result, their clothing looks very poor halfway through the game.

This is not only the bad looks that troubled me, it is unrealistic. Clothing was very expensive at the time when the game is set. Even a prosperous noble could afford maybe one new attire per year, not to say about those less wealthy. Now put yourself in their pants: if you know what you are wearing is going to be your only set for several years would you really neglect it and completely disregard any required care about it? No! On the contrary, you would spare it and maintain it every time possible, repair any damages as much as you can. That's exactly what people tried to do at the time. Medieval life was hard and didn't have many bright moments. One of them was clothing. Warhorse did a fantastic job recreating the styles and colours. I was so glad to see clothing in colours other than grey and brown, but this detail has been overlooked.

Now this is not to say that a peasant would look as immaculate as a nobleman. He would, of course, possess simpler pieces made of cruder fabrics. And, of course, he would not wear his best outfit working in a field. But when going out, he would try to look as well, clean and tidy as he could afford.

Highlights

  • []Greatly improves the looks of the NPCs;

[]Skalitz refugees and other beggars are obvious exceptions.

    Known Issues

The effect of the mod is inconsistent for some reason. It mostly affects causal NPCs that are marked as 'Villager', 'Townsman' etc. when you approach them. For example, the Rattay tailor is not affected. It is said that these changes will have 100% effect after starting a new game.

    How to Install

    • []Unpack the zip contents into your main KCD folder (usually located in \Steam\steamapps\common\).

      []Run the game.

    • That's it.

      Compatibility

This mod changes the following file:

      \Libs\Tables\rpg\social_class.xml

It will conflict with any other mod that changes the same file.

To my knowledge, there is another mod that does the same thing, but it's included in a compilation. This one increases the effect and is a standalone.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Neat and Tidy is a cosmetic mod for Kingdom Come: Deliverance that improves the appearance of NPC clothing, making them look cleaner and more realistic. It targets the issue of NPCs never repairing their garments, which becomes noticeable mid-game. The mod affects most casual NPCs but has inconsistent results, with some characters like the Rattay tailor unaffected. Best results are achieved with a new game.

✨ Key Features

Improves the visual condition of NPC clothing, making them look cleaner and more realistic.
Affects casual NPCs marked as 'Villager', 'Townsman', etc., but not all characters (e.g., Rattay tailor).
Skalitz refugees and beggars are intentionally excluded from the effect.
Known issue: effect is inconsistent; starting a new game may ensure 100% effect.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Fixes a glaring immersion breaker—NPCs walking around in rags mid-game.
  • Adds realism by reflecting the historical value of clothing in medieval times.
  • Lightweight and purely cosmetic, so it won't affect gameplay or performance.

⚠️ Cons

  • Inconsistent effect—some NPCs like the Rattay tailor are not affected, which can be jarring.
  • May require a new game to see full effect, meaning existing saves might not benefit completely.
  • Last updated in 2019—might not be compatible with the latest game patches.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Kingdom Come: Deliverance players who care about visual consistency and immersion, especially those who notice NPCs' ragged clothes late in the game. If you're a completionist or role-player who values historical accuracy, this mod is a must-have. Skip if you're fine with vanilla NPC appearance or want gameplay changes—this is purely cosmetic.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 5 minutes
