Save Doctor (Test)

Use this if Half Sword Progression Mode does not save, resets your progress, or sends you back to a fresh progression state.

What The Fix Does

The fix tries to make Progression Mode save normally again.

It does this by:

- Making a backup of your Half Sword save files.

- Moving broken Progression Mode save files out of the active save folder.

- Removing a Steam Cloud helper file that may restore broken save data.

- Keeping your settings file.

- Creating a small report in case the fix does not work for you.

Important Limit

This tool can fix common broken save-file and Steam Cloud problems.

It cannot recover progress that Half Sword never saved to disk at all. If that is happening, send the report files so the problem can be investigated.

Quick Start

1. Close Half Sword.

2. Open Steam.

3. Right click Half Sword.

4. Click `Properties`.

5. Turn off Steam Cloud for Half Sword.

6. Extract this zip.

7. Double click `Fix_Progression_Save.bat`.

8. Wait until the black window says the fix was applied.

9. Start Half Sword again.

10. Enter Progression Mode and test saving.

That is the normal use. You do not need to open the `_internal` folder.

Optional Watch Mode

Only use this if the normal fix works for a while, but the save disappears again later, or if the normal fix does not work for you.

1. Open the folder where you extracted the mod.

2. Hold `Shift`.

3. Right click on an empty space in the folder.

4. Click `Open PowerShell window here` or `Open in Terminal`.

5. Run this:

.\_internal\Run-HalfSwordSaveDoctor.ps1 -Mode Watch

6. Leave that window open while playing.

Watch Mode keeps backup copies of `GameProgress.sav` while you play. It may help if the game writes a save and then the file disappears or becomes empty.

If It Still Does Not Save

Open the folder where you extracted the mod.

Look for this folder:

HalfSwordSaveDoctorOutput

Inside it, find the newest folder and send these files to the mod author:

- `report.txt`

- `report.json`

Also say whether Steam Cloud was turned off before you ran the fix.

After Running The Fix

Keep Steam Cloud off while testing.

Then test like this:

1. Start Half Sword.

2. Enter Progression Mode.

3. Make a little progress.

4. Leave Progression Mode.

5. Enter free mode or quit the game.

6. Go back to Progression Mode.

If your progress is still there, the fix worked.

If Windows Blocks The File

Windows may show a warning because this is a small community tool downloaded from the internet.

If you see a blue Windows warning:

1. Click `More info`.

2. Click `Run anyway`.

If nothing happens when you double click `Fix_Progression_Save.bat`, try this:

1. Open the folder where you extracted the mod.

2. Hold `Shift`.

3. Right click on an empty space in the folder.

4. Click `Open PowerShell window here` or `Open in Terminal`.

5. Copy this line:

Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope Process -ExecutionPolicy Bypass

6. Paste it into the window.

7. Press `Enter`.

8. Copy this line:

.\_internal\Run-HalfSwordSaveDoctor.ps1

9. Paste it into the window.

10. Press `Enter`.

This only allows the script to run in that one PowerShell window. It does not permanently change your Windows settings.
