GTA 6 Modding Tips & Tricks

Updated September 2026 · GTA 6 releases November 19, 2026

GTA 6 mods aren't here yet, but the smart modders are preparing now. Here's how to be ready on day one.

1. Keep a modded GTA V running

GTA 6 modding will use the same skills and the same tool families — Script Hook V, OpenIV, and RagePluginHook. Staying fluent in the GTA V scene means you hit the ground running when GTA 6 drops.

2. Follow the tool developers now

Script Hook VI and OpenVI will be announced by the same developers. Following them early means you'll install the first releases before the rush.

3. Wait for the PC version

Consoles get no mods. Don't buy a console copy expecting to mod — hold out for the PC build, which Rockstar has historically shipped 12–18 months after console.

4. Budget for a strong PC

GTA V's heaviest mods (NaturalVision, RTGI) pushed high-end hardware. GTA 6's RAGE engine will be more demanding — a current-gen GPU and fast NVMe storage will matter for big graphics overhauls.

5. Never mod GTA Online

Rockstar bans online modders permanently. Keep mods strictly in single-player, the same rule that has protected the GTA V scene for a decade.

6. Back up your game files

Before your first GTA 6 mod, copy the clean install. It makes rollback trivial when a mod or patch breaks things.
