Balanced Mage - Mana Scaling and Robe Regeneration

Description

Balanced Mage is a lightweight Union plugin for Gothic II: Night of the Raven that improves Fire Mage progression without turning the player into an overpowered spellcaster.

In the original game, an early mage can run out of mana after fighting only a few weak creatures. This often forces the player to use melee weapons or drink mana potions after nearly every small encounter.

The purpose of this mod is to make playing as a mage more practical throughout the game.

Basic magic remains useful, maximum mana becomes a meaningful offensive attribute, and Fire Mage robes gradually restore mana while travelling. Strong enemies and prolonged fights still require careful mana management, tactical movement, stronger spells, or mana potions.

The mod follows one main principle:

Weak enemies should not exhaust a trained mage, but serious battles should still consume resources.

Installation instructions

  []Download the mod archive.[/]

  []Extract the archive directly into the main Gothic II installation directory.[/]

  []Keep the folder structure from the archive unchanged.[/]

  []Confirm folder merging or file replacement if prompted.[/]

  []Start the game normally through your Union-compatible launcher.[/]

The mod is ready to use with its default settings. All balance options can be changed through the Union settings menu inside the game.

A new game is not required.

Main features

Mana-based spell damage scaling

Offensive spells receive additional damage based on the player character's maximum mana.

The damage bonus uses a smooth S-shaped progression curve.

This means:

• []Very low maximum mana gives little or no bonus.[/]

  []Early growth is deliberately slow.[/]

  []The bonus increases faster once the player becomes a dedicated mage.[/]

  []Growth gradually slows near the maximum value.[/]

  []There are no sudden jumps between progression thresholds.[/]

  []The bonus is calculated from maximum mana, not current remaining mana.[/]
