What this is

------------

A Windows tool for the PC (Steam) release of FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster.

It edits the game's enemy data so that every enemy can be given a set of buffs

and challenge changes, alongside a set of options that help the player (scan,

confuse immunity, and reward boosts). Selections are applied by rewriting the

monster files and the enemy ability tables inside FFX_Data.vbf.

Requirements

------------

- The PC (Steam) FFX/X-2 HD Remaster.

- FFX_Data.vbf from the game's data folder.

- Windows with PowerShell (present on Windows 10 and 11 by default).

- ff12-vbf.exe placed in this folder. It is bundled with this version; see "If your antivirus removes ff12-vbf.exe" below.

If your antivirus removes ff12-vbf.exe

ff12-vbf.exe is FFGriever's vbf unpack and repack utility, and it is included in this folder. The

tool reads and repacks FFX_Data.vbf through it and will not patch without it. ff12-vbf.exe is an

unsigned third-party utility, so some antivirus products quarantine it on a heuristic basis even

though it is not malware. If the file disappears from this folder, restore it from your antivirus

quarantine (or re-extract the download) and add this folder to your antivirus exclusions, then run

the tool again. The original copy is also available inside the version 1. 0 download on this mod's

1. A backup of FFX_Data.vbf is kept somewhere safe.

2. FFX_Data.vbf is copied from the game's data folder into this folder, next to the tool.

3. Run Customizable Battle Tweaks.bat opens the window.

4. Ticking the wanted options and clicking "Patch changes into FFX_Data.vbf" rewrites the local FFX_Data.vbf in place and also writes a "mods" folder.

5. The rewritten FFX_Data.vbf is moved back into the game's data folder, replacing the original.

The status line at the bottom shows the current stage (extracting, editing files, repacking) while it works, which can take a minute. Full detail is recorded in BattleTweaks_log.txt.

Everything buffs enemies except the Player options and the Rewards, Steal and drops, and Equipment drops boxes, which help the player.

Enemy auto-buffs (each enemy starts the battle with the status):

- Auto-Protect: physical damage taken is halved.

- Auto-Shell: magic damage taken is halved.

- Auto-Reflect: single-target spells bounce back. The Besaid tutorial Water Flan is excluded, so the scripted Thunder cast still lands.

- Auto-Regen: HP recovers each turn.

- Auto-Haste: the enemy acts more often.

Enemy damage and elements:

- Null magical: magic attacks deal 0. Applied to enemies whose Magic Defense exceeds Defense by 100 or more.

- Weak enemies absorb their other elements: for an enemy weak to one or more of Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Water, the remaining elements among those four become absorbed (they heal it), while the original weakness is kept. The three enemies that change element during battle (Spherimorph, Seymour Omnis, Greater Sphere) are excluded.

- Enemies take half poison damage: the per-turn poison percentage is halved.

Enemy attacks:

- Guaranteed critical hits: every damaging enemy move always lands a critical hit.

- Stronger status infliction: each player-harmful status chance on enemy moves is raised by 50 points, capped at 140. Moves that cleanse statuses are left unchanged. Confuse is excluded while Confuse immune is on.

- Damaging enemy attacks inflict Doom: every damaging enemy move also inflicts Doom on the party member it hits, on top of its normal effect, and the move can still miss or be evaded. This also clears Doom immunity from Ribbon and the aeons' hidden ability so Doom cannot be resisted. With Exclude aeons ticked, the aeon signature moves are left clean so a summoned aeon does not spread Doom.

- Enemy attacks can break the 9999 damage limit: every enemy ability that deals damage is marked to break the damage limit, so a strong or boosted enemy hit can exceed 9999. Aeon signature moves are always left
