📋 About This Mod

This mod is a compilation of Creation Engine .ini commands under Fallout76Custom.ini in Documents > My Games > Fallout 76 to improve performance, increase FPS as well as frame pacing, and remove that stuttery/janky/clunky feel when playing.

What you'll be doing involves editing your Fallout76Custom.ini file which is located in Documents > My Games > Fallout 76. In the event you do not have this file, right click anywhere in the file path and select New > Text Document, title it Fallout76Custom.ini. Sometimes when you create a new text file, Windows automatically adds ".txt" to the end of it (e.g. Fallout76Custom.ini.txt). Make sure to delete that .txt part.

Or simply download one of the two mod files, drag and drop into the above file path (or add to your existing Fallout76Custom.ini if you have one), and feel free to reference information below on what the parameters do.

----------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • []Marking "read only" on Fallout76Custom.ini is not required, but it can depend on what launching service you're using for the game. If you're using Steam, you're fine. If not, your .ini file may be reset each time you close the game so you'll want to check the box for read only by right clicking on the file after you're done with your changes.
    • []Despite how the ini commands may look below, you want to ensure there are no spaces between the header (like ) and the commands (like bUseSomething=1). Also note, it doesn't matter what order these are in and it's okay if there are gaps between the equal signs. Examples:

      bStreamingWallEnabled=0

      bBloodSplatterEnabled = 0

      • []If you already have an existing Fallout76Custom.ini file but do not see an existing header that is listed in this guide, that's okay. For example, probably isn't in there. Just add it as shown anywhere in the file, the parameters under it, and proceed.
        • []After making some adds or edits to your Fallout76Custom.ini, check out Fallout76Prefs.ini which is in the same folder path. Verify that you do not have any conflicting values for the same commands (e.g. Custom has VolumetricLighting=0 but Prefs has VolumetricLighting=1). The Custom ini is the master file and should overrule this, but best practice.

            ----------------------------

            TIPS & TRICKS:

            • []In your Nvidia Control Panel or whatever GPU software you have, I recommend changing the Shader Cache settings. You'll want 10GB or Unlimited if possible. This will allow you to store more shaders for the game which makes it so it doesn't have to use processing power to load these as you're playing. Greatly helps reduce hitching while things load as you're moving.
              • For maximum performance gains, ensure Shadow Distance is set to Low and your Actor/Object/Item Fade bars are at 0, or all the way to the left.

              ----------------------------

              bStreamingWallEnabled = 0

              bJobifyMagicUpdate = 1

              bUseThreadedBlood=1

              bUseThreadedMorpher=1

              bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1

              bUseThreadedTempEffects=1

              bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1

              bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1

              bUseThreadedAI=1

              iTextureMemoryUpperBound=4294967296

              iTextureUpdateThreshold=16777216

              What this does: Deactivates texture streaming, pulls from your shader cache instead. Prioritizes the engine to use multithreading on a multi-core CPU to allow better processing on demanding effects, blood, particles, trees, AI, etc. Multi-threading is technically already coded into the game, but there are poor contingencies where the engine will fall back to single core processing as a safe net. This helps remind the engine not to shove everything through one pipeline when processes get busy and actually distribute the workload.

              For the iTextureMemory and iTextureUpdate, this is an ini command for letting the game use more of your available RAM. The values listed above are using 4 GB of RAM. The game's default texture streaming memory allotment is actually right around 1-2 GB, so simply doubling this opens the flood gates even if you're on a 32/64 GB stick. I have tested this extensively with the small 4 GB values above and it makes a big difference. If you'd like to expl
