📋 About This Mod
It was somewhere around my 57,483rd restart when I realized, hey, these Vault 111 textures are really quite ass. If I'm going to keep seeing this place over and over again, I should oughta try to fix this.
There's already at least one mod that does this, but I wanted to make the paint more faded, too.
So I loaded up the original textures in Upscayl 2. 15, resized to 4k using the remacri preset, then used Paint.net to desaturate the colors and add some noise to try to make them look a bit grungier and less plasticy, then saved as BC1.
Is it a retexture? No!
Does it look great now? Also no!
But does it look slightly less ass now? Maybe! I think it fits in better with my 50 Shades of Rust style preference, or at least it's not as jarringly ass. For a place you'd hardly even notice if you ever actually played the game instead of just modding it, seems good enough to me. At least until someone with actual skills makes a proper retexture. With parallax, hopefully.
Saved as loose files. You have full permission to use the fruits of my hard several minutes of button-pushing labor any way you like.
This mod upscales and desaturates the textures for the Vault 111 exit elevator in Fallout 4, giving it a more muted and detailed look. It's a simple visual enhancement for players who want a subtle change to the game's starting area. With 94 endorsements and recent updates, it's a niche but maintained cosmetic option.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Lightweight and focused—does exactly what it says without bloat
- Recent update (August 2025) shows the author is still active
- Decent community support with 94 endorsements and 59k downloads
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects one elevator—don't expect a broad visual overhaul
- Desaturation might not be to everyone's taste if you prefer vibrant colors
- No before/after screenshots provided, so you're flying blind on the look
For Fallout 4 players who want a subtle texture improvement in the Vault 111 exit area without changing the overall game feel. If you're a texture purist who appreciates upscaled details and muted tones, this is a quick win. Skip if you're looking for a full visual overhaul or prefer the original color saturation.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a texture replacer, just drop the files into your Data folder or use a mod manager like Vortex for easy uninstallation.
- Make sure you have Archive Invalidation enabled (or use a mod manager that does it automatically) to see the textures in-game.
- If you're using other texture mods, load this one after them to ensure it takes priority.
