Unique Holotapes

• Have you ever noticed that the game has hundreds of holotapes, and they all use the exact same model and texture? Considering they're modeled like some sort of retrofuturistic hybrid of a zip disk and a VHS casette, this has bugged me for ages. These things were literally designed to be written on and labeled, and you're telling me nobody ever did that? Yeah, that's not going to fly for me. So I spent over a year working on this mod to change that.

  FAQ

  • How do I start using this mod?

    Just install it! No configuration or special steps necessary.

  Can I use this with holotape replacers?
  • Probably? The holotapes show the original model/texture underneath, so if you have a texture replacer then you will see that under my labels and writing. Some texture replacers, especially dark ones, may not work very well and might hide writing added by this mod.

    If you're using a mod that completely changes the holotape model, then that model will be used for mod-added holotapes while the ones I edited will still look like generic Fallout 4 holotapes with unique details added on.

  Is this compatible with mod-added holotapes?
  • Yes it is. Mod-added holotapes will use the default model and textures with no unique details.

  Is this compatible with item sorters?
  • That depends. Older item sorters that manually rename all objects would need to be patched. Newer item sorters that dynamically generate their patches will work just fine, but you'll need to generate a new patch after installing this mod.

  Will you add patches to give unique details to mod-added holotapes?
  • No, I don't currently have any plans to do so. It took me over a year to do roughly three hundred holotapes. While one or two tapes might be trivial, they add up very quickly and I could easily wind up sinking months into textures for a bigger mod like Sim Settlements 2 or America Rising 2. I would rather not do that when I've already accomplished my goal.
