  Head to Nick Valentine’s Office to begin the quest “The Fifth Gospel”. Reading the new case file will  prompt you to talk to someone about him in the Diamond City market.

  The Preacher does not have a vanilla style affinity system. In leu of this, his perk is active once you recruit him, and ONLY active while he is in your party. He can be dismissed to be a worker on your settlement, and can be re-recruited. Inquire about him while he’s following you, he has a rich backstory, and will also bless you with useful gifts (and caps!) when you speak to him.
