INSTALLATION AND COMPATIBILITY:

Choose the newest main file. It is always safe to update or uninstall this mod.  Install using your favorite mod organizer anywhere because load order shouldn't matter, or place the ScopeMenu.swf into steam\steamapps\common\fallout4\Data\interface.

Not compatible with anything that edits ScopeMenu.swf in the interface directory (so other mods of this type), but otherwise compatible with almost every weapon mod as long as it uses vanilla scopes. Compatible with IMOD blur mods, such as those linked at the bottom of the page.

WHAT IT DOES:

I went into Inkscape (after using JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler to open up the swf) and replaced the old scope frame svg with my own, thinner one that includes shadowing in the inner borders, frame blurring, and a custom Recon scope. I did the best I could given my current skills, but am always looking for criticism!

NOTE: Please note that the recon scope will still be circular for mods such as Dak's/Commonwealth Weaponry, as they have their scopes reference the

circular frames in their respective esp. It is a very easy to alter by just changing the record to "square" if you really want to, so I will leave

that to you. Personally, since they use custom circular scope frames on their guns, I'd just leave it.

MORE DETAILS

I really can't believe no one else bothered with improving this mod in 8 years. It wasn't crazy hard to learn, although I won't say it was easy at first dealing with the more annoying aspects of paths.

It is very annoying to get vector paths to play right with details, especially when I originally tried to port raster to path from a png I made ( I gave up on that and manually created the frame instead, but at the cost of mesh details). I then tried to use a png straight into the swf, but sadly Fallout 4 cannot render rasterized images with their native player (Feb 22,2026 - Or maybe it can! Investigating new finding for future update), and you will get a green square when you scope in.

I see why the original mod author didn't bother with trying to add more details, because you have to individually pen the paths in, and make sure that the vectors have enough detail not to break when you put them into th

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-tested with 277 endorsements and 7,400 downloads.
  • Actively maintained, last updated August 2026.
  • Drop-in replacement that works with any weapon mod without patches.

⚠️ Cons

  • Only affects scopes—if you want full weapon overhauls, this won't touch the rest.
  • Custom SWF might conflict with other UI mods that alter scope overlays.
  • No screenshots or detailed previews in the description, so you're flying blind on the look.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 4 snipers who want a more realistic scope view without changing gameplay. If you're a modded weapon junkie, this saves you from compatibility headaches. Skip if you're after gameplay tweaks—this is purely cosmetic.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since it's a SWF replacement, install with a mod manager to avoid overwriting other UI mods.
  • Test with your favorite scoped weapon in third-person to see the new overlay clearly.
  • If you use other scope mods, load this one after them to ensure it takes priority.
