MODERN COMBAT AI
Fight Smarter. Fight Together.
Squads with a leader that flank you, cover each other and pin you down, built from the game's own combat AI. Yes, a real AI overhaul. Not just tweaked numbers.

The Problem
Fallout 4's engine already has squad tactics, flanking, suppression, morale and voiced squad orders. In vanilla, most of it never shows:
-
[]Broken mechanics: a single throw can release two grenades, flanking almost never triggers, melee fighters break off in front of you for pointless detours.[/]
[]Explosives into their own group, and NPCs that walk straight through fire.[/]
[]Always the same tactics: everyone rushes the same spot, sprints into your gun and fights on unmoved when half the squad is dead.[/]
[]A silent squad: the recorded squad orders are never played.[/]
Leaders
Every squad of three or more has a leader: the one in power armour (unless the whole squad wears it), a boss, a legendary or the most experienced fighter. The leader directs the fight and gives the orders, while the others do the running. Take it out and the squad may break.
Flank Teams
Hide behind cover and the squad no longer just waits: someone works round your side while the rest holds and keeps you pinned, and squadmates follow on the same side. Vanilla sends a single NPC at most, and almost never.
Teammates, Not Enemies
-
[]No friendly explosives: no grenade or Molotov while a squadmate stands, or is about to run, where it would land or in the throwing line. No more several grenades at once.[/]
[]Covering fire: a member that breaks cover asks a squadmate to cover it; while a flank team goes round, the ones holding cover it.[/]
[]Cover to cover: nobody runs across open ground while you aim or shoot at them.[/]
Pin Down
-
[]Grenades at the right moment: more at a target hiding behind cover, fewer at one in the open.[/]
[]Over the cover, not into it: throwers adjust the angle and lob the grenade behind your cover.[/]
[]They use your mistakes: reload in plain view, stop firing, or let their grenade go off, and one of them moves up.[/]
[]Pinned means pinned: near misses keep an NPC down behind cover too, and it blind-fires back more often.[/]
Voiced Commands
The orders recorded for Raiders, Gunners, the Brotherhood, the Children of Atom and settlers, played only when the move really happens and only by someone close enough to be heard. Lines differ by voice, for example:
[]"Move up! I got you covered!" - a squadmate pushes forward.[/]
-
[]Grenades at the right moment: more at a target hiding behind cover, fewer at one in the open.[/]
