📋 About This Mod

Introduction

WARNING

This mod is experimental, it might affect savegame safety and might cause stability issues. Use at your own risk.

This framework is capable of attaching and removing mods (OMODs) to inventory items during gameplay without the need of a workbench. The data (stats, animation graph, models, etc.) for equipped items are updated correctly and seamlessly without unnecessary animations or visual bugs. Additionally, custom animations can be used before a mod switch. Separate approach is used for ammo switching and for other types of mods, this makes the ammo switching dependent only on the currently equipped ammo and independent of the actual weapon (no patch is needed for custom weapons).

  • []MSF is a framework, it has minimal use on its own, you have to install other mods that add new features using this framework. A few demo mods are already available (Ammo Overhaul and Service Rifle Underbarrel and Selective Fire).[/]

[]Ammo selection: You can change the ammo used by your weapon during gameplay. You can select/equip ammo types using 3 different methods:

[]select via hotkey: each ammo subtype (hollow-point, incendiary, explosive, etc.) has an ID of 2-9 with 1 being the base ammo; you can assign individual hotkeys to each ID (for example numpad 1-9)[/]

[]ammo cycling: cycle through each ammo subtype (reload animation plays each time)[/]

[]ammo quickkey: select target ammo on the HUD widget by cycling through each ammo subtype, after a customizable timeout delay, the currently selected ammo type will be equipped[/]

[]select via UI widget: you can install a custom widget and assign a hotkey to it; when pressed, the available ammo options should appear on the HUD so you can select the desired ammo[/]

[]select via Pipboy: you can click on ammo subtypes in the Pipboy menu to equip them[/]

[/]

[]Mod selection: There are 4 predefined mod categories (firing mode, underbarrel, muzzle, scope (e.g. side aim)) and you can assign hotkeys to each of them. Mod authors can also add new categories with new hotkeys. You can attach/remove object mods (OMODs) to your items during gameplay using two different approaches:

[]assign a direct hotkey to the category to cycle through the mods (cycling example: semi-auto --> burst mode --> full auto --> repeat)[/]

[]quickkey functionality: select target mod on the HUD widget by cycling through each mod in the category, after a customizable timeout delay, the currently selected mod will be equipped[/]

[]install a custom widget and assign a hotkey to it to display all available mods in that category[/]

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Solid community trust with 211 endorsements and nearly 14k downloads
  • Handles OMOD swapping on the fly without visual glitches
  • Adds real tactical depth with ammo, fire mode, and underbarrel options

⚠️ Cons

  • Description cuts off mid-sentence, so you're not getting the full feature list
  • Last updated July 2026—could be stale if the game's patched since then
  • Potential conflicts with other mods that alter inventory or weapon behavior
🎯 Is This For You?
For players who want to swap weapon attachments mid-combat without menu fiddling. If you're into immersive loadouts or tactical shooters, this is your jam. Skip if you're happy with static weapon mods and don't need dynamic switching.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Test the mod with a single weapon first to see how OMOD swapping feels before going all-in.
  • If you're on a modded setup, load MSF early in your load order to avoid conflicts with other gameplay overhauls.
  • Check the mod page for any missing description details—the cut-off text might hide important setup notes.
