Make Like A Tree

Make Like a Tree is a customizable tree texture mod for the elm and maple trees designed in a vanilla friendly and performance optimized manner.

• []Uses backlighting so that the leaves allow a little light through behind them, like they do in the real world.

  []Optimizes the texture against the UVs of the trees so there are very few stragglers. Even in vanilla, many branches are... left out on a limb, detached from any portion of the tree. While I haven't entirely eliminated it, I have repaired as many places as I feel necessary for it to be unnoticeable.

  []Optimize alpha coverage of the mipmaps to reduce overdraw and alpha test threshold of the material. This allows performance to be identical, or even better, than vanilla.

  []Adds multiple color options for leaves, as well as no leaves.

• Improved normal maps.

• Installation

  Install like any other mod in your mod manager of choice. Both 2k and 4k texture varieties are available.

  Compatibility

  It is generally compatible with nearly everything. Combine with other tree mods or use by itself. You may need to generate lod if combining with other tree mods.

  LOD

  I always recommend generating your own LOD using my Optimized Vanilla Tree LODs and Far Object LOD Improvement Project. Default alpha threshold settings for Optimized Vanilla Tree LODs should work fine. As always, follow my article to generate perfect custom LOD for your setup.

  If you are uncomfortable generating your own LOD, Make Like a Tree is compatible with FOLIP's Pregenerated Object LOD out of the box.
