📋 About This Mod

This mod will change the default "automatron" you can create at the robot workbench from a naked protectron to a fully outfitted assaultron. For balance's sake it also updates the cost you pay to create the robot to the full cost of all the assaultron's installed components.

The main reason I made this mod is the automatron reset bug. This bug will occasionally reset automatrons that have been assigned as provisioners back to their "default" state. This leaves them completely defenseless, equipped with standard protectron parts and no armor or weapons. By turning the default automatron into a fully equipped assaultron the reset won't leave them defenseless, and in fact if you don't change their new default parts you won't notice that they have been affected at all.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

This Fallout 4 mod changes the default Automatron robot from a Protectron to an Assaultron, so when you build a robot at the workbench, it starts as the more powerful Assaultron instead. It's a simple quality-of-life tweak for players who prefer Assaultrons as their base. With 583 endorsements and over 12,000 downloads, it's a well-received small mod.

✨ Key Features

Changes the default Automatron robot from a Protectron to an Assaultron.
Works with the robot workbench to set Assaultron as the base robot.
Simple crafting tweak for Fallout 4's Automatron DLC.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-approved with 583 endorsements and over 12k downloads.
  • Saves time and hassle if you always end up swapping to Assaultron parts anyway.
  • Lightweight and focused—does exactly what it says, no bloat.

⚠️ Cons

  • Only affects the default robot; you'll still need to build up your Assaultron with parts.
  • Requires the Automatron DLC, so it's useless if you don't own that content.
  • Compatibility risk with other mods that alter the robot workbench or Automatron defaults.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 4 players who use the Automatron DLC and want their robots to start as Assaultrons instead of Protectrons. If you're tired of swapping out the default chassis every time, this is a must-have. Skip if you don't use Automatron or prefer the Protectron base.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have the Automatron DLC installed, or this mod won't do anything.
  • If you use a mod manager like Vortex or NMM, install it like any other mod—it's just a simple ESP/ESL file.
  • Load order shouldn't matter much, but place it after other Automatron overhaul mods to ensure your change sticks.
