Before the onset of the great war, Vault 88 served as a rail junction for Vault-Tec, transporting employees and resources to the various vault build sites in the Commonwealth, allowing Vault-Tec to run its logistics in a safe, and clandestine manor. After the great war the site was largely abandoned save for the odd ghoul or raider. After 200 years The sight was discovered by a group of survivors fleeing Quincy before the Gunner assault. Stumbling upon the entrance by accident, they found much had been left behind after the tunnels to the other sites had collapsed. With a secure place to stay the settlers began to rebuild the station into their home. over time giving it a new name, a fitting name,
